Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder

I drink a lot of green tea. I used to only drink iced tea until I gave up coffee a year and a half ago. I never knew there were so many different teas from green to detox teas. I recently came across Dr. Mercola's article on matcha green tea powder. I had never heard of this tea. I tried it and love the taste along with the health benefits from drinking it. I do still have a cup of regular green tea from time to time and that's OK because green tea is still good for me also.

You've likely read about the amazing benefits of green tea for many years. I recently realized that there is an amazing difference in the quality of green tea. If you carefully look at most green teas, they are not green -- they are brown.

After some research, I found that the best green tea is really bright green tea. If it isn't bright green, you are receiving inferior oxidized green tea which will not provide the full range of benefits you've heard about.

So when you are searching for high quality green tea, make sure it is bright green and that it does not taste bitter. Otherwise, you are probably getting inferior oxidized tea leaves. Move on and keep searching for a better brand.

Why I Consider Green Tea Nutritionally Superior
Next to pure water, drinking green tea from 100% quality tea leaves becomes one of the most nutritious beverages you can consume.

Tea originates from the leaves of Camellia sinensis -- a white-flowered evergreen. About 500 species of tea exist, divided into about 50 different countries, with China leading all nations in abundance... but the highest quality teas come from Japan.

The different ways teas go through processing sets them apart from one another.

After the plucking of tea leaves occurs, they begin to oxidize and ferment which imparts a distinctive color and taste. Green, black and oolong tea refer to the method used to process those plucked leaves.

For green tea, leaves are steamed, roasted, or pan-fried almost immediately, leaving little chance for them to ferment. As a result, most green teas tend to be lighter in color.

The most nutrient-rich green tea, Matcha green tea, comes in a stone-ground powder form --completely unfermented.

The best Matcha green tea comes from Japan and is steamed, not roasted or pan-fried. As a result, Matcha green tea retains all the nutrient-rich value possible from the tea leaf and does not have a bitter taste.

Additionally, this form of green tea from Japan provides you and your family many more nutrient-rich benefits when compared to other traditionally brewed green teas.

Matcha, a powdered green tea, comes from the same plant as black teas, but remains unfermented. It is then ground into a fine green powder so that you receive benefits from the entire tea leaf.

Why Other Matcha Green Teas Don't Stack Up
There are many Matcha tea options out in the marketplace today for you to choose from. However, you need to realize that, just like all green teas are not created equal -- the same holds true for Matcha.

Fortunately, if you are a fan of tea, a solution does exist. Whether you occasionally drink tea or avidly consume it, I have exciting news for you. I've discovered an exclusive Matcha green tea I can recommend 100% -- it's called Royal Matcha Green Tea!

This special tea comes straight from the pristine tea plantations of Nishio, Japan. Nishio teas have been laboratory tested to make sure they don't contain the toxic levels of heavy metals found in teas grown near industrial development.

So, how do you know that the Matcha tea I discovered is the best possible in providing you the highest levels of nutrients and a great taste?

PetSmart Recalls Two Beef Hooves - Dog Treats, Nov 2009

PetSmart Voluntarily Recalls Dentley's Beef Hooves

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Phoenix, AZ, Nov 4, 2009 - PetSmart (NASDAQ: PETM) is voluntarily recalling two Dentley's Beef Hoof products for potential salmonella contamination. The products were manufactured by Pet Carousel, Inc. in Sanger, Calif.

The recalled products include only the following types of Dentley's Beef Hooves purchased between Oct. 2, 2009 and Nov. 3, 2009:

Dentley's Bulk Cattle Hoof UPC# 73725703323
Dentley's 10 Pack Beef Hooves UPC# 73725736055

No other products are included in this recall.

The affected products were shipped from the Pet Carousel plant to three PetSmart distribution centers in Ottawa, Ill.; Groveport, Ohio and Newnan, Ga.; and then shipped directly to certain PetSmart stores. Although the affected product was not shipped to every store, as a precautionary measure PetSmart immediately recalled the product from all of its US stores and instituted a register block to prevent any product from being inadvertently scanned and sold. In addition, PetSmart removed the product from the PetSmart.com Web site and notified PetPerks customers with valid e-mail addresses in the PetSmart database who purchased the affected products.

Salmonellosis is an infection with bacteria called salmonella. Most persons infected with salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts four to seven days, and most persons recover without treatment. However, in some individuals, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. In these patients, the salmonella infection may spread from the intestines to the blood stream, and then to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

Many dogs do not show clinical signs of salmonella. However, when they do, they often have diarrhea or other signs of systemic infections.

Customers who purchased the recalled products should discontinue use immediately and return the product to any PetSmart store for a complete refund or exchange. Customers who have concerns about their health or their pet's health should consult a medical professional. For additional information about the recall, customers can visit www.petsmartfacts.com, www.petsmart.com ; www.fda.govor contact PetSmart Customer Service at 1-888-839-9638.

Dog Treat Warning For Pig Ears and Beef Hooves, Nov 2009

FDA Health Alert for Certain Pet Treats Made by Pet Carousel
Products may be contaminated with Salmonella

Nov 5, 2009

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is issuing this health alert to warn consumers not to use Pig Ears and Beef Hooves pet treats manufactured by Pet Carousel because the products may be contaminated with Salmonella. The products were distributed nationwide in both bulk and retail packaging for sale in pet food and retail chain stores. Pet Carousel is based in Sanger, Calif.

The products were manufactured under conditions that facilitate cross-contamination within batches or lots. Although no illnesses associated with these products have been reported, the FDA is advising consumers in possession of these products to not handle or feed them to their pets.

The affected pig ear products were packaged under the brand names Doggie Delight and Pet Carousel. The affected beef hooves were packaged under the brand names Choo Hooves, Dentley’s, Doggie Delight, and Pet Carousel. All sizes and all lots of these products made by Pet Carousel are included in this alert.

During September 2009, the FDA conducted routine testing of pig ears made by Pet Carousel. The test results detected a positive reading for Salmonella. This prompted an FDA inspection of Pet Carousel’s manufacturing facilities. During the inspection, the agency collected additional pet treat samples. Further analysis found Salmonella present in beef hooves, pig ears and in the manufacturing environment.

Salmonella can affect both humans and animals. People handling dry pet food and/or pet treats can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the treats or any surfaces exposed to these products. Consumers should dispose of these products in a safe manner by securing them in a covered trash receptacle.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella may experience some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Although rare, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis (inflammation of the lining of the heart), arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their health care provider immediately.

Pets with Salmonella infections may become lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets may only experience a decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected, but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed any of the affected products or is experiencing any of these symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately.

The FDA will continue to investigate this matter to determine the source of the Salmonella contamination and offer updates as appropriate.

Consumers can report complaints about FDA-regulated pet food and pet treat products by calling the consumer complaint coordinator in their area. You can locate the nearest consumer complaint coordinator at:

Bisphenol A In Canned Foods Like Soup, Tuna, Green Beans....

Dr. Heidi explained how tomatoes in cans are bad for us. In her words, "Tomato products are acidic and the can liners have toxic chemicals that have been shown to leach into the products, and may affect hormone production."

Now Kim and Dr. Heidi report new sources that there are more canned foods to be concerned about.

Other studies done with Environmental Working Group.

Consumer Reports. Tests of canned foods, including soups, juice, tuna, and green beans, have found that almost all of the 19 name-brand foods tested contain measurable levels of Bisphenol A (BPA).

Consumer Reports: Tests Find Wide Range of Bisphenol A in Canned Soups, Juice, and More.

Highest Levels of BPA Were Detected in Some Samples of Green Beans and Soups
BPA is bad. It's in the soup can liners. And it's been linked to "a wide array of health effects including reproductive abnormalities, heightened risk of breast and prostate cancers, diabetes, and heart disease."Federal guidelines currently put the daily upper limit of safe exposure at 50 micrograms of BPA per kilogram of body weight. But that's based on old studies...More here.
My take? There should be ZERO TOLERANCE for BPA in foodstuffs big food sells us. Don't we have enough exposure to toxins in our environment? Why would we allow anything more than ZERO BPA in soup can liners? Think of your kid slurping up BPA.
Of course you should buy fresh. And stuff in glass containers. But still...

Here's the story.

Bodybuilding.com Recalls 65 Supplements, Possible Steriods, Oct 2009

BODYBUILDING.COM Is Conducting a Voluntary Nationwide and International Recall of 65 Dietary Supplements That May Contain Steroids

Company Contact:
1-866-236-8417
service@bodybuilding.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Boise, ID - November 3, 2009 – As part of its ongoing cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration ("FDA"), Bodybuilding.com, LLC (the “Company") announced today that it is conducting a voluntary nationwide and international recall of all lots and expiration dates of 65 dietary supplement products (the "Recalled Products") described on the attached list, that were sold through the Company's website, www.bodybuilding.com.

The FDA has informed the Company that it believes that the Recalled Products contain ingredients that are steroids. Specifically, the FDA has advised the Company of its concern that the Recalled Products may contain the following ingredients that are currently classified, or the FDA believes should be classified, as steroids: "Superdrol," "Madol," "Tren," "Androstenedione," and/or "Turinabol." While the Company has not had an opportunity to independently confirm the FDA's concerns that the Recalled Products in fact contain these ingredients, the Company is undertaking this voluntary recall in an abundance of caution.

Acute liver injury is known to be a possible harmful effect of using steroid-containing products. In addition, steroids may cause other serious long-term adverse health consequences in men, women, and children. These include shrinkage of the testes and male infertility, masculinization of women, breast enlargement in males, short stature in children, a higher predilection to misuse other drugs and alcohol, adverse effects on blood lipid levels, and increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and death.

The Company has not received to date any reports of adverse events in connection with the Recalled Products. Because of the possible harmful effects of using products containing steroids, the Company is cooperating with the FDA to conduct a recall of the products the FDA has identified as containing steroids. Prior to agreeing to carry the Recalled Products, the Company received assurances from all of the manufacturers of the Recalled Products that these products were properly classified as dietary supplements in compliance with federal law, meaning that these products did not contain any unlawful ingredient. Customers who have any of the Recalled Products in their possession should stop using them immediately and contact their physician if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking one or more of the ingredients listed above.

Any adverse events that may be related to the use of the Recalled Products should be reported to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online [at www.fda.gov/MedWatch/report.htm], by phone [1-800-FDA-1088], or by returning the postagepaid FDA form 3500 [which may be downloaded from www.fda.gov/MedWatch/getforms.htm] by mail [to MedWatch, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787] or fax [1-800-FDA- 0178].

The Company is committed to providing accurate information about its products. The Company is working voluntarily with the FDA in this recall process.

Consumers should return any unused products purchased on the Company’s site to the Company. For instructions on how to return Recalled Products please call (1-866-236-8417) or e-mail (service@bodybuilding.com) the Company.

Healthy Food to Fight Colds and Flu

Boosting your immune system with better food and healthy lifestyle choices can prevent you from coming down with colds and flu. The key is not waiting until you get sick to make these changes; you need to revamp your diet and lifestyle before the cold and flu bugs hits you.

Drink lots of water (Take your weight - divide by 2 and this is the ounces of water your body needs. So if you weigh 170 divide by 2 = 85 ounces of water per day), eat a healthy balanced diet supplemented with a whole food supplement for extra protection, exercise often and get restful sleep.

Eat More Fruits and Vegetables

You know you need to eat lots of fruits and vegetables. The problem with this age - old phrase is that people tend to like the fruits more than the veggies. If you really hate a certain vegetable it's probably not going to do you a lot of good if you have to force yourself to eat it. To keep your immune system strong, you have to actually get the fruits and veggies in your body, you have to make it happen.

People tend to eat fewer fruits and vegetables in the winter, which is the opposite of what you should be doing. Everyone needs at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day to get adequate vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants -- all things we need for a healthy immune system.

Make sure that fruits and vegetables are part of every meal. You can add berries or a sliced banana to your whole grain cereal at breakfast and drink a glass of 100% orange or grapefruit juice. Pack a bunch of grapes or an apple with your sandwich for lunch, and top that sandwich with tomato slices, avocado, sprouts and lettuce. Start dinner off with a salad or vegetable soup, or serve a big salad as a healthy dinner. Keep a bowl of oranges, apples and pears on your counter top to grab as quick snacks.

Keep Up Your Healthy Diet

While you want to focus on increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat, don't forget to choose other healthy foods to supply nutrients your immune system needs. A healthy balanced diet with lean meats, fish, poultry, low-fat dairy, legumes, whole grains, nuts and seeds provides your body with all of the nutrients you need for general health. A healthy body tends to have a healthier immune system.

Protein sources such as lean meats, dairy, eggs and legumes are especially important because they supply the amino acids that your body needs to build the components of your immune system. Lean meats also contain iron and zinc; deficiencies of these minerals can depress your immune system.

Of course, avoiding unhealthy food is important too. Stay away from excess sugar and unhealthy fats, such as saturated fat and trans fats. Make a real effort to give up the Mc Junk meals. Keep healthy snacks handy so you won't be so tempted to eat less healthy options. Try dried fruit or trail mix.

If the cold or flu bug bites here's a daily menu based on experts' recommendations:

Breakfast

Orange juice or half a grapefruit. Both are great sources of vitamin C, which could shorten the duration of colds.

Whole-grain cereal or bread. Whole grains are rich in vitamins and minerals, including zinc and vitamin E, which can help keep your immune system healthy.

Black tea. Real tea leaves (not herbal) have substances that speed the action of cilia, the tiny hairlike cells lining your nasal pas-sages, helping them expel germs.

Mid-morning snack

Yogurt with fresh fruit.

Lunch

Chicken soup. Nebraska researchers used a traditional recipe they called "Grandma's Soup," which had veggies like onions, parsnips, and carrots, along with chicken. But most of the commercial varieties they tested reduced inflammation, too. For even more protection, add a clove or two of garlic.

Anise-seed cookie. Anise seeds, with their licorice-like flavor, have been found to help break up congestion.

Dinner

Salad of bitter greens. Watercress and arugula can make a salad special-and research shows they may also have antiviral effects. Bitter greens are especially helpful in relieving chest congestion, sniffles, and coughs.

Pasta with tomato sauce and plenty of garlic. Because the pungent bulb is one of the most potent disease-fighting foods around, it's worth having at least two servings a day. Raw garlic has the most benefits, but cooked garlic also packs a punch.

Ginger tea. It's different and refreshing-and ginger is loaded with virus-fighting substances, including several that act directly against cold viruses."(One substance, gingerol, can suppress coughing.) Boil water; then steep a tablespoon of fresh shredded ginger for 2 or 3 minutes.

Honey and lemon drink: for a bedtime drink that helps to soothe sore throats and coughing - squeeze the juice of a lemon into a mug of hot water and add a teaspoon of honey, stir to dissolve.
