Legalize Raw Milk - Change we can live with!

Please, Watch this video before reading about making raw milk legal.
The truth about pasteurized milk, don't blame it on the cow video here...legalize raw milk
Let's bring the truth about Raw Milk to President Elect Obama. Change.org is hoping to make this possible.

"As a small organic dairy farmer, struggling to survive, my family and I drink farm fresh milk every day. No pasteurization or homogenization. It is not needed on a farm where cows are fed on pasture and the owner farmer keeps a close eye on the health of each cow. This milk is much better for human health and is very very safe ( see realmilk.com)."

"But if I sell or even give you the same milk I drink, in America I go to jail." Raw milk is available in some US states. RP

"In order to restore the family farm, increase humane treatment of cows, restore human health, reduce global warming and other benefits, most of our food dollars must go directly to the farmer."

"Raw milk must be legal in all states, and for interstate shipment."

"Please review realmilk.com first."

"I have listed three video just to show the diversity of interest in raw milk. I do not agree with everything said in these videos. There are dozens more."

Join the conversation on raw milk at:

I think this comment says it all:
Mr. Obama, it's time to stop the deception and lies that raw milk is going to kill everyone. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are drinking it every day and they tend to be healthier than the ones drinking the processed milk. They are NOT getting sick and dying. What does that tell you? Does cooking the milk to keep from getting listeria or something better if that now-processed milk turns around and gives you heart disease and digestive tract diseases? No. The answer is simply having HEALTHY animals to begin with and clean milking going on - you CAN'T get diseases from healthy animals. And that's not that hard to do. Our family has exported scores of dairy goats in years past and they were tested for just about everything the sun before they could leave our country - and every single one of them tested negative for every single disease. We drink our raw goat milk with complete confidence that it is healthy and not going to make us sick.

So what do you think about making change that will change our health. What if real food could replace synthetic drugs? What if our kids grew up knowing what real milk tastes like and they were not overweight and had no disease like cancer? I think it would be amazing and overdue!

Please tell how you feel about the Government telling us we can't buy Real Milk.

McCartney lashes out at ‘meat-eating’ Dalai Lama

In his never-ending fight for the cause of vegetarianism, Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has lashed out at The Dalai Lama for eating meat – and supposedly contradicting his Buddhist beliefs.

McCartney lashes out at ‘meat-eating’ Dalai Lama
Right to the source...

The famous singer initially tried to convert the Tibetian Spiritual leader to vegetarianism, insisting that it was “wrong” to eat meat.

In his tirade, McCartney wrote to The Dalai Lama to highlight that meat eaters create suffering for animals, and that this fact contradicted a basic tenant of Buddhism that its followers should “not cause suffering to any sentient beings”.

When the Dalai Lama explained that he had been told by doctors to eat meat for health reasons, this wasn’t enough for the passionate superstar.

"I found out he was not a vegetarian, so I wrote to him saying 'Forgive me for pointing this out, but if you eat animals then there is some suffering somewhere along the line'.” He told prospect magazine.

"He replied saying that his doctors had told him he needed it, so I wrote back saying they were wrong."

Who else sees what is wrong with what McCartney is doing?

First why would Paul McCartney be an expert on what we should eat?

Second who does McCartney think he is saying the doctors were wrong when the Dalai Lama explained he needed to eat meat for health reasons.

What a jerk Paul McCartney has become. Get real Sir McCartney, you are a musician not a Doctor. You have no background or education about why or when we need to eat meat or any other food.

At least what I write here and on my other sites is from valid resources, not just my personal opinion.

I would love to hear your thoughts about this and any other times we are told by unfounded sources what to eat. Keep in mind most (if not all) media published reports about "eat this, not that" will not be from credible sources. It's usually whatever is in the mainstream and getting attention right now.

If you doubt any of this, ask yourself why so many people are overweight or suffer so many disease if the media reports are right and we follow them.

This is another example of questionable health and fitness news:

Obama - Vilsack Not "Change We Can Believe In" Stop More Harm to Our FOOD...

Update: Reuters.com Picked Up This Post. This is the first post www.WholeFoodAndMoreBlog.com has had in Politics for Reuters.com - we are used to being on Health. Hope we can make a difference. Here's the link...
OCA: Vilsack Not "Change We Can Believe In"
By Ronnie Cummins Organic Consumers Association, December 17, 2008
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 17, 2008
Organic Consumers Association: Vilsack Not "Change We Can Believe In

"WASHINGTON, DC – Today's announcement that former Iowa Governor, Tom Vilsack, has been selected as the new Secretary of Agriculture sent a chill through the sustainable food and farming community who have been lobbying for a champion in the new administration.

"Vilsack's nomination sends the message that dangerous, untested, unlabeled genetically engineered crops will be the norm in the Obama Administration," said Ronnie Cummins, Executive Director of Organic Consumers Association. "Our nation's future depends on crafting a forward-thinking strategy to promote organic and sustainable food and farming, and address the related crises of climate change, diminishing energy supplies, deteriorating public health, and economic depression.”

The Department of Agriculture during the Bush Administration failed to promote a sustainable vision for food and farming and did not protect consumers from the chemical-intensive toxic practices inherent to industrial agriculture. While factory farms and junk food have been subsidized with billions of tax dollars, the US industrial farm system has released massive amounts of climate-destabilizing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and increased our dependence on foreign oil.

The Secretary of Agriculture is responsible for directing the U.S. Department of Agriculture and its $97 billion annual budget, including the National Organic Program, food stamp and nutrition programs, agriculture subsidies, and the Forest Service.

While Vilsack has worked to restrain livestock monopolies, his overall record is one of aiding and abetting Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs, also known as factory farms).

Vilsack’s support for unsustainable industrial ethanol production has already caused global corn and grain prices to skyrocket, literally taking food off the table for a billion people in the developing world.

Over the past month, Organic Consumers Association members have sent over 20,000 emails to President-Elect Obama’s Transition Team, calling for the appointment of a Secretary of Agriculture who would develop and implement a plan that promotes family-scale farming, a safe and nutritious food system, and a sustainable and organic vision for the future.

"Obama's choice for Secretary of Agriculture points to the continuation of agribusiness as usual, the failed policies of chemical- and energy-intensive, genetically engineered industrial agriculture," said Cummins. "Americans were promised ‘change,’ not just another shill for Monsanto and corporate agribusiness. Considering the challenges we collectively face as a nation, from climate change and rising energy costs to food insecurity, we need an administration that moves beyond ‘business as usual’ to fundamental change—before it’s too late,” concluded Cummins.

Vilsack’s business as usual positions have included the following:
• Vilsack has been a strong supporter of genetically engineered pharmaceutical crops, especially pharmaceutical corn.
• The biggest biotechnology industry group, the Biotechnology Industry Organization, named Vilsack Governor of the Year. He is also the founder and former chair of the Governor's Biotechnology Partnership.
• When Vilsack created the Iowa Values Fund, his first poster child for economic development was Trans Ova and their pursuit of cloning dairy cows.
• The undemocratic 2005 seed preemption bill was the Vilsack's brainchild. The law strips local government’s right to regulate genetically engineered seed.
• Vilsack is an ardent supporter of corn and soy based biofuels, which use as much or more energy to produce as they generate and drive up world food prices, literally starving the poor.

With growing awareness among Americans of the harms of genetically engineered foods and the fast-growing support for organic agriculture, Obama's choice of a GMO advocate could prove very controversial.

"It is not only foolish, but disrespectful. It is a slap in the face of those who believed in the change he championed during his campaign," said Yannick A. Phillips, an advocate for sustainable agriculture and Sonoma delegate to the California Democratic Party. "The California Democratic Party took a stand this past month, asking our California legislators to take a stronger actions to protect our food and farmers from the harm GMO contamination could do to our non-genetically engineered crops. I hope Obama will listen to this progressive agricultural state and the California Democratic Party and reconsider his mistake. He can choose among the fine people that the Organic Consumers Association has recommended."

A list of potential nominees for Secretary of Agriculture is available at:

The OCA has launched http://www.stopvilsack.org/ to mobilize hundreds of thousands of people to oppose Vilsack's Senate confirmation through an online petition.

Additionally, OCA's nationwide network of 850,000 organic consumers are urging members of Congress to move beyond business as usual and implement a comprehensive strategy for organic food and farming in 2009 and beyond.

5 Reasons To Give Up Sugar!

sugar and fat gain

* I couldn't agree more about being stuck buying expensive packaged foods for weight loss. That's why I love the ER food plans, it's a program that teaches you how to eat real food and it's yours forever! And, it works. RP

There are many reasons why you will want to join us (yes I'm doing doing it along with almost 130 people) on our sugar free adventure. Here are the top 5:

Sugar is addictive: Sugar is powerfully addictive. Sugar often feels like it has the power to control us instead of the other way around. Sugar addiction shares common traits with all addictions, including: hoarding, binging, using the addiction to change moods, and many other addictive-like behaviors. Seeing sugar as an addiction explains a lot of how we act around sugar and is likely the reason why so many of us yo-yo diet. If you really don’t think sugar is addictive, try staying away from it for a few days and see; most people become acutely aware of just how addicting sugar can be when they remove it from their lives.

Weight loss: Sugar has more to do with weight gain than you might have been led to believe by medical and nutritional professionals. Sugar does contain empty calories, but sugar is also special in its ability to add to your waistline. Your body has certain energy needs and once those needs are met by what you are eating, any excess sugar in your blood stream is going to be stored as fat. Excess sugar is very common when you are eating sugar and foods that act like sugar on a consistent basis. Keeping sugar out of your diet keeps your blood sugar low and, consequently, keeps your body from storing fat.

Sugar is harmful: Despite what the sugar industry and medical associations are saying, sugar is harmful. It is harmful in three ways:
Adds Weight: As discussed above, sugar adds pounds to our bodies. This causes harm to our bodies because being obese or overweight increases a number of diseases: diabetes , stroke, heart disease, certain cancers and many more diseases. Obesity cuts life expectancy by as much as five years.

Insulin Insensitivity: Consistently high blood sugar lead to the cells throughout the body becoming insensitive to insulin. This insulin insensitivity is at the heart of diseases such as metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Having diabetes, by the way, can clip as many as 10 years off your life and, maybe as many as 18 quality years off your life.

Toxic: Sugar is toxic to our blood vessels, much the same way that cigarette smoke is toxic to our lungs. As sugar flows through our blood stream, it destroys the very blood vessels that carry the sugar throughout our bodies. This destruction is easily seen in people who have poor blood sugar control (like diabetics) who have high rates of eye disease (retinopathy), kidney disease, heart disease, nerve disease (neuropathy), and strokes, all caused by the destruction of blood vessels. The destruction also occurs in people who don’t have diabetes, only at a slower rate.

Eat Healthy With Thai Food

Thai Food for Health

Takeaway and restaurant food make up a larger share than ever of the food consumed by UK diners, but that doesn't mean that we have to compromise on the quality of what we eat. Thai food offers a significantly healthier diet than most of our other favorite imported cuisines.

Dining in the UK is, like so many aspects of modern life, sometimes a compromise. In days gone by, when gender roles conformed to long-established stereotypes, a housewife would prepare a full, cooked meal for the family to share in the evening. These days, when it is more likely that both partners in a relationship will have careers, time is at a premium and many begrudge time spent cooking after a busy day at work. Consequently, takeaway food and restaurant meals account for a larger part of our diet then ever before.

While many of us avoid the kind of fast food that we consider to be junky American imports, such as burgers and greasy fried chicken, we do not seem to be so aware of the health aspects of other cuisines which, although established, are also relative newcomers to our shores.

Health in diet and lifestyle is a modern obsession. We shy away from overdoing the very obvious unhealthy foods. We limit our intake of cakes, sweets, chips, but we are less wary of eating Indian and Chinese restaurant meals or takeaways - perhaps several times a week - even though, at the back of our minds, we know that these are often as full of fat, sugar and salt as the more obvious junk foods.

Of the imported cuisines popular in the UK, Thai food offers one of the most consistently healthy and well-balanced diets available. Its various techniques and components are a fusion of contributions made by the Asian, European and African cultures that, at various periods, took advantage of the trade routes upon which Thailand was so well placed. It is almost as if it has embraced all the best elements from the many influences that played parts in its evolution, while leaving out most of the things which we now know are not healthy to eat.

An article in the health section of the BBC's website stated that the popular Indian dish chicken tikka masala with pilau rice typically contains around 47g of fat, while a similar Thai food choice, stir fried chicken with plain steamed rice (phad khing hai) has just 13g of fat of which only 3g is saturated fat. The difference is striking, and the more dishes one compares, the greater the contrast one sees between the two cuisines so far as healthy eating considerations are concerned.

As well as a healthy, balanced overall diet, the individual ingredients used in Thai cooking are well known for their benefits and, in many cases, they are actually used in Southeast Asian medicine.

Turmeric, for example, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, both of these qualities are known to play a part in preventing the development of cancer.

Lemongrass, a lovely, fragrant, lemony herb is used in Chinese medicine in the treatment of colds and flu-like bugs. It is also known to help maintain good digestion.

Galangal is a variant of ginger and, as such, shares many of its properties. Galangal is particularly renowned for its effectiveness in relieving digestive problems and gastric disorders. It is also reputed to assist in the reduction of pain and stiffness caused by arthritis.

Chillies, cayenne in particular, have recently come to the attention of western researchers. Indications are that chillies and their extracts may be beneficial in maintaining a healthy cardio-vascular system, and in supporting the body's ability to produce insulin. Some researchers have also found positive impact on certain skin conditions, and on digestion. Another, quite unusual, benefit of chillies is that they are known to combat insomnia, so your delicious Thai meal will also help you to sleep soundly at night!

Coriander is well known throughout Asia and is one of the most vital ingredients common to most cuisines from that region. Like many of the other herbs used in Thai cooking, it is known to aid good digestion, and is reputed to encourage a strong immune system, thus helping to defend against common minor illnesses.

Coconut milk is believed to assist in the lowering of LDL, a form of cholesterol which is harmful at high levels. It also helps to raise levels of more desirable fatty substances that the body needs in order to function optimally. Like coriander, coconut milk is known for its immunity boosting properties. Some of its components are also known to inhibit some of the effects of aging.

Kaffir Lime Leaves have antioxidant properties like several of the ingredients we have mentioned already. Kaffir is said to purify the blood and assist digestion, while promoting dental and oral health. Kaffir is one of the main flavors used in Thai cuisine.

But there is more to the healthy eating aspect of the Thai diet than the individual properties of its ingredients: one should not underestimate the importance of the freshness of Thai herbs. Where many Asian cooking styles use a lot of dried spices and extracts, Thai cooking tends to make use of fresh herbs in their natural, whole state rather than extracts. Whole foods of any kind are now widely recognized, even in the west, as being the healthier option, and should be preferred over processed or powdered derivatives.

The popularity of salads, fish and seafood mean that there are plenty of alternatives to red meat. That said, body builders and macho traditionalists who don't consider a meal to be a real meal unless it contains a decent helping of red meat would find that a Thai menu caters for them too.

As with all cuisines, there are some things best enjoyed in moderation. If one ate only dishes rich in coconut milk, for example, then one might reasonably expect to add a few inches to one's waistline. Similarly, someone on a diet may decide to opt for plain or fragrant, rather than fried, rice dishes in order to keep the calories down, but the great thing about Thai cuisine is that meals are generally composed with all elements very well balanced, so it is most likely that a full meal would contain all these marvelous ingredients in just the right proportions.

Few dietary experts would dispute that the Thai diet is one of the most intrinsically healthy in the world.

Best oil for Omega 3 fatty acids - Flax Seed Oil...

Benefits of Flax seed Oil

Flax seed oil is an excellent resource for Omega 3 fat. Read on to know more about the benefits of the oil...

Benefits of Flax seed Oil

People across the world are more health conscious now than ever before. It may sound strange but fat is a very important part of the diet. As more and more people realize this fact, there has been a growing interest in the flax seed oil, which is rich in the Omega 3 type of fat and has been endorsed by the American Heart Association as 'good for the heart'. Along with Omega 3 fat, flax seeds are also a good resource for manganese and dietary fiber.

The scientific name for flax seeds is Linum Usitatissimum meaning 'most useful'. This is an apt term to describe the versatility and the nutritional value of this seed. Flax seeds are a little larger than sesame seeds and are covered with a hard shell that is smooth and shiny. Their color varies from a deep color of amber to reddish brown depending on the variety of the flax seeds.

Flax seeds have been widely used since the Stone Age. Ancient Greeks have used it in their kitchens and all through, the health benefits of flax seed have been widely known and acknowledged.

Benefits of Flax seed Oil

Some of the benefits of flax seed and flax seed oil are:

  • Flax seed oil helps in increasing the stamina by increasing the energy that is produced in the body.
  • It helps accelerate the healing of sprains and bruises.
  • It helps stimulate brown fat cells thereby increasing the metabolic rate making it easier to burn fat.
  • It helps with the treatment of multiple sclerosis.
  • Schizophrenics have shown an improvement in their behavior.
  • It has been scientifically proven that flax seed oil can be used to treat some forms of depression.
  • Improves the absorption of calcium, thus helps strengthen bones, hair and nails.
  • It can help improve eyesight and the perception of color.
  • Flax seed oil is known to reduce the risk of cancers like breast, prostrate and also skin cancer.
  • The oil also helps fight inflammation associated with lupus and gout.
  • Ground flax seeds can help in the passage of the stool thus relieving the patient from constipation and hemorrhoids.
  • A diet rich in flax seeds is also known to help people suffering from the dry eye syndrome.
  • Flax seeds also promote ovulation in women and extend the second half of the progesterone dominant cycle. This is highly beneficial for women who are trying to get pregnant.
  • It is known to relieve cases of premenstrual and postmenopausal syndrome in some women.
  • Flax seeds also helps in lowering the blood pressure in patients suffering from hypertension.
  • It helps lower the level of cholesterol in blood.
  • Flax seed oil can also be applied externally on the skin to soften it.
Dosage

The recommended daily dose of flax seed oil is 1000 mg. It is always advisable to include flax seed in the daily diet like breads, yogurt, juices and salads. It can even be sprinkled on cooked vegetables to give it a nuttier flavor. As a matter of fact, research has confirmed that up to 30 grams of flax seed can be consumed on a daily basis with no side effect. Ensure that grounded seeds are used as whole flax seeds simply pass through the body. Also, there is no nutritional difference between brown and yellow flax seeds. The human body requires some time to absorb the flax seed. It may take anywhere between a few days to six weeks before you will be able to observe the benefits of the flax seed oil.
If including flax seed in your diet is not a feasible option, then you can even buy the flax seed oil capsules or flax seed oil. However, it is important to buy flax seed oil of good quality. Flax seed oil capsules or oil stored in brown bottles can be bought from stores. Flax seed oil is prone to rancidity and hence should be stored in a cool dark place or in the refrigerator. Discard the oil if it has developed an odor. Do make a note that some varieties of flax seed oil are also sold for painting, planting and other purpose and should not be consumed.

Some people develop gastrointestinal symptoms like flatulence and bloating when flax seed is made a regular part of the daily diet. Hence, it is suggested that small quantities, like one teaspoon is used initially and the quantity can be increased gradually as the body adjusts to the flax seeds.

However, if you unsure or require further information about the flax seed oil, do consult your doctor. Also, pregnant women must consult their doctors about the content of flax seed that they can take in their diet as animal studies have shown that a high intake of flax seeds may be harmful to the baby. It is always better to be safe than sorry later.

Can Vitamins Affect High Blood Pressure?

Which Vitamins Affect High Blood Pressure?

Can Vitamins Affect High Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure is a common and serious problem. Is it true that vitamins can help to reduce high blood pressure?

The American Heart Association states that one in every three Americans have high blood pressure. The more startling fact is that nearly two thirds of those who have high blood pressure do not know it. High blood pressure or hypertension is called the silent killer for this reason.

The American Heart Association recommends maintaining your ideal weight, reducing salt and alcohol consumption, increasing physical activity and eating more fruits and vegetables are excellent ways to reduce high blood pressure. In addition to the aforementioned, some studies have shown that taking certain vitamins can help reduce high blood pressure.

Potassium helps to keep sodium levels in the body from getting too high so some studies have shown that taking a potassium supplement or eating food rich in potassium had lowered their blood pressure levels. Bananas, potatoes and milk are good sources for getting potassium into your body.

People who are magnesium deficient have higher levels of blood pressure than those who are not. Some preliminary studies have found that patients deficient in magnesium who began taking magnesium supplements were able to lower their high blood pressure. People require between 300 and 400 milligrams of magnesium each day. Salmon, leafy green vegetables, whole grains and nuts are good sources of magnesium.

Vitamin C is currently the target of several studies in seeing how it plays a role in fighting high blood pressure. Patients who had less vitamin C in their diet tended to have higher blood pressure than those who had more vitamin C in their diet. Those who took 240 milligrams a day of vitamin C were 50% less likely to develop high blood pressure than those who consumed 60 milligrams of vitamin C per day.

More studies need to be done on vitamin C, but 240 milligrams is a safe level of vitamin C so it won't harm you if you consumed that much daily in an attempt to reduce your risk of high blood pressure.

What is this supplement?
It’s called The Pops. It’s made from 22 fruits, 23 veggies and food herbs, probiotics, prebiotics, 11 digestive enzymes and spice packed in capsules. The Pops are nutrients. You still need to try to eat healthy because taking a supplement does not replace food. This multi is a supplement whose ingredients are ”whole” foods, minus the water and fiber. It has whole fruits, veggies, herbs, enzymes and spices that contain all the nutrients in real food - not just a blend of vitamins and minerals.

What are in the Pops?
Full ingredients for Purples (fruit) here.
Full ingredients for Greens (veggie) here.

How can all those ingredients be in a small capsule?
Dr. Heidi explains here.
Enough of each ingredient is in each capsule so that the synergy among them makes a difference. Synergy, not quantity, is the key to effectiveness – much like good teamwork is the key to winning. “Less is more” in nutrition, means that our bodies can more easily process and use small quantities. In the long run, this translates to more health.

Why are the vitamin and mineral amounts not listed?
The value of the ingredients is not in amounts. It’s in the synergy or interaction among the hundreds of nutrients contained in the ingredients, all-working together. Functional medicine research is showing that very small amounts of a wide array of natural nutrients is usually more beneficial than large amounts of isolated nutrients. The body uses them more easily. Further, there is cooperation between certain vitamins and minerals, promoting absorption. Correcting a deficiency in one vitamin/mineral requires the addition of others, not simply replacement of the deficient one.

What will The Pops do for me?
We don’t know what the Pops will do for you. Since every body is different no one knows for sure what any whole-food supplement will do for you. The only way to know how it will work is to try it. What others have noted:

Promotes:

Digestion
Elimination and detoxification
Energy
Better sleep
Better skin
Reduced stress and anxiety
Reduced cravings
Reduced aches and pains
Normal cholesterol and blood pressure
Weight loss

I take a Multi-Vitamin now. What makes a whole-food multi better?
Have you heard people laugh about Americans having the most expensive urine in the world? That’s because the vitamins most Americans take are synthetic, and 90% of synthetic vitamins pass through the body unabsorbed. A synthetic vitamin or mineral is a laboratory simulation of a simple version of the real thing. Synthetic vitamins are super-processed. They are usually manufactured at high temperatures and contain artificial or toxic ingredients, such as dyes, preservatives, coal tars, sugars, starch and other additives. Kind of like paint or plastics.

The USDA has raised the dietary guidelines for fruit and vegetable consumption from five to nine servings per day. Even if you like fruits and veggies, can you eat a variety of nine every day? The Pops contain twenty-two fruits and twenty-three vegetables, along with antioxidants, metabolic enhancers, digestive enzymes and probiotics. That’s over 70 nutritionally dense ingredients in your body, every day without having to stress over trying to eat them.

What is the average dosage? How do I take them?
The average person takes one Purple capsule in the morning for energy and one Green capsule in the evening for calming and better sleep. Take with food because of the digestive enzymes. Some people break the capsules open and sprinkle the contents on food or in smoothies. When opened they smell like spice, not vitamins.

How long will a box last?
A box of Pops is 60 capsules; if you take a purple and green each day one box of purple and one green is a 2-month’s supply. Taking one Purple and one Green a day means half a box a month.

If I’m on any medications or prescriptions, can I take The Pops?
Generally yes. However, both the Pop-a-Purple and Pop-a-Green contain Bioperine®, which helps the body absorb nutrients. Bioperine® will also enhance the absorption any drugs you’re taking. So it’s recommended you wait an hour after taking any medication before taking the Pops. If in doubt it’s always best to check with your Doctor.

This is just like eating the actual fruits and veggies so all I need to do is take the Pops instead of eating fruits and vegetables, right?
This is a supplement. So no, it’s not the same thing as eating actual fruits and vegetables. The Pops can help your immunity stay strong but you still need exercise, healthy eating, enough sleep etc. Good nutrition and supplementation can help protect you from disease. Good nutrition helps your body to heal itself, like holistic healing.

Do I need a whole-food multi?

According to Cf Balch, P (2006), Prescription for Nutritional Healing, Fourth Edition. These are people who need whole-food multis:

Adolescents
Alcohol drinkers
Athletes
Dieters
Drug users (prescription or recreational)
Elderly
Health fanatics
Junk food regulars
Overweight and obese people
People who supplement with specific nutrients
Sick people
Stressed out people
Smokers
Women who are pregnant, nursing or taking oral contraceptives
Workaholics

How to Shop For Vitamins...

More reasons to try the POPS at our amazing price this WED. Yes I will give you the link to order them at $15.50 per box on Wednesday morning! So many folks have asked me for the link now. It's not live yet so it it wouldn't help to give it before Wednesday, sorry...

We all know we need to eat fruits and veggies, less processed foods and no junk -- most of our diets are lacking. So millions of people take a multivitamin to fill in the gaps but never feel any different or read reports like this one from March 17, 2008 Vitamins A, C and E are 'a waste of time and may even shorten your life'. It can make you dizzy with confusion. What are we supposed to do?

Two things.
1. Read and understand the ingredients in your multivitamin.
2. Unless directed by a physician don't take isolated vitamins, like vitamin E alone.
* Don't take mega doses, more is not better.

Two things to know about these important studies.
1.These studies are done using synthetic ingredients.
2.The studies were also done using isolated synthetic vitamins.

These isolated synthetic vitamins are not absorbed and utilized properly by the body. That's because - the 'main vitamin' ingredient, (e.g. A, E, C, etc.) which is extracted by synthetic vitamin makers, does not include the chemical cousins and other ingredients that main vitamin comes with in its natural form. Apparently, the body needs these "cofactors" to absorb the main vitamin.

It appears now from these studies that the synthetic vitamins are useless or worse. As you read in your "Are Your Vitamins Safe?" report the study I noted above is only the most recent in a growing number of studies finding that synthetic vitamins (either from a lab beaker or isolated from a plant or animal) are worthless or even risky for a significant number of people.

What to do if you want to take a multivitamin, you know to fill the gaps in a not so perfect diet, for peak performance, or just for insurance?

Use your "Are Your Vitamins Safe?" report. Check the ingredients from your multivitamin against the report. If you see things like, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) instead of Vitamin C (from camu camu fruit) you are taking a synthetic vitamin.

--Other synthetic additives : Glucose, sucrose, starch, microcrystalline cellulose etc. for binding or dissolving ingredients, or for texture and taste.

--Artificial colors, like FD&C Blue #2 Lake, or FD&C Red 40

--Preservatives: sorbates (eg, Polysorbate 80), benzoates (eg, sodium benzoate), nitrites (eg, sodium nitrite), sulphites (eg, sulphur dioxide)

--The most important things in a supplement are the ingredients.
More about the cofactors and how ingredients work together.

If you are a regular multivitamin user, a synthetic form, and you never feel any different taking them it's not working for you or worse.

Do your own study, try a whole food multivitamin. Ingredients in a whole food supplement are listed using the names of the actual fruit or vegetable, like “blueberry” or “broccoli”. Many health food stores carry these, ask for them. Or get the POPS from Whole Food Nation.

Two things to think about when taking a multivitamin.
Don't expect the multivitamins to be the new fountain of youth.
Don't replace eating healthy with a multivitamin.

Know what you are taking, is it from food or made in a lab, then decide which is better for you.

Closing thought, since the recent reports about vitamins causing harm, many supplement makers have picked the studies apart showing what was wrong with the study.

--Some say it was funded by the drug industry so they (drug industry) want the results to be negative.
--Some say the amount of vitamins used were to small or large.
--Some talk about the meta studies being at fault or have a political stance, etc.

The important thing is the fact that the studies are showing synthetic vitamins can cause harm. If the reports continue to show the harm and help get people off synthetic vitamins, I feel it's served a purpose. It's not taking supplements that is dangerous, it's what's in them.

We need more of these studies for the public to learn and then decide what is best.

Why I Don't Drink Skim Milk

whole milk, whole food
The first reason I don't drink skim milk is flavor - flavor is in the fat.

Second, butterfat helps the body digest the protein, and bones require saturated fats in particular to lay down calcium.

Third, the cream contains the vital fat-soluble vitamins A and D. Without vitamin D, less than 10 percent of dietary calcium is absorbed. In the American diet, whole milk was the traditional source of vitamins A and D and calcium. Skim milk - especially industrial skim milk - is an inferior source of both. Skim and 2 percent milk must by law, be fortified with synthetic vitamin A and synthetic vitamin D 3. There is evidence that both synthetic vitamins are toxic in excess.

Finally, whole milk contains glycosphingolipids, fats that protect against gastrointestinal infection. Children who drink skim ilk have more diarrhea at rates three to five times higher than children who drink whole milk.

Good Calories Bad Calories - Do You Know The Difference?

In an appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live" on Friday, October 19, 2007, the author of the book GOOD CALORIES, BAD CALORIES Gary Taubes was on the program discussing his new book challenging the conventional wisdom regarding fat consumption, a healthy diet, and the unique negative role carbohydrates have played in the obesity epidemic and other health calamities.

Featuring guest host from "The View" Joy Behar, the lineup also included Oprah Winfrey's diet guru Dr. Mehmet Oz as well as respected health expert Dr. Andrew Weil. The discussion was rather contentious.

But it was Dr. Weil's thoughtful and level-headed response to Taubes' book that stood out the most about this broadcast. In just those few minutes of airtime, Dr. Weil expressed precisely what Gary Taubes hopes that most doctors, nutritionists, and health professionals will take away from GOOD CALORIES, BAD CALORIES.

Whether you are a physician, researcher, or patient, then you will want to get your hands on a copy of this book. It is available NOW on Amazon.com: Good Calories, Bad Calories

Dr. Weil Endorses Gary Taubes' Good Calories, Bad Calories

Gary Taubes said, "Although nutritionists don’t like to talk about this in an era that considers fruits and vegetables to be the sine qua non of a healthful diet, animal products happen to contain all the amino acids, minerals and vitamins essential for health, with the only point of controversy being vitamin C. And the evidence suggests that the vitamin C content of meat products is more than sufficient for health, so long as the diet is indeed carbohydrate-restricted, absent the refined and easily digestible carbohydrates and sugars that would raise blood sugar and insulin levels and so increase our need to obtain vitamin C from the diet".

"Moreover, carbohydrate-restricted diets, as they have been prescribed since the 1920s, do not restrict green leafy vegetables, but only starchy vegetables such as potatoes and refined grains and sugars — only those foods that are virtually absent any essential nutrients unless they’re added back in the processing, as is the case with white bread. A calorie-restricted diet that cuts calories by a third, as the British nutritionist John Yudkin pointed out in the early 1970s, will also cut essential nutrients by a third. A diet that prohibits sugar, flour, potatoes and beer, but allows eating to satiety of meat, cheese, eggs and green vegetables, will leave the essential nutrients, whether or not it leads to a decrease in calories consumed".

"If you've been trying and failing time and time again to lose weight by dutifully eating less and exercising more, perhaps its time to try your grandmother’s diet instead. Stay away from the fattening carbohydrates, stop worrying about how much fat you eat and see what happens. Let your weight and your waist circumference tell you whether the diet you’re now eating is a healthy one".

Please read Gary Taubes full article here Mother Earth News.

I know the Gary Taubes research is right for many people who have battled weight loss for years. This is the method Dr. Heidi uses and it has worked in the ER Fat Burn Programs

Five Worst Foods You Can Eat

There are no "bad" foods, right? Only food you should eat in moderation? Well, not really. The following foods are so bad for your body that I really can't see any reason to eat them. Not only do they have zero nutritional value, but they also give your body a healthy dose of toxins, which should make the idea of eating them really hard to swallow.

Doughnuts worst food to eat
Doughnuts are fried, full of sugar and white flour and most all varieties contain trans fat. Store-bought doughnuts are made up of about 35 percent to 40 percent trans fat.

An average doughnut will give you about 200 to 300 calories, mostly from sugar, and few other nutrients.

Soda
One can of soda has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, 30 to 55 mg of caffeine, and is loaded with artificial food colors and sulphites.
The diet sodas are more problematic as they are filled with harmful artificial sweeteners like aspartame.

Studies have linked soda to osteoporosis, obesity, tooth decay and heart disease, yet the average American drinks an estimated 56 gallons of soft drinks each year.

Soft drink consumption among children has almost doubled in the United States over the last decade, which is not surprising considering that most school hallways are lined with soda-filled vending machines.

If you routinely drink soda--regular or diet--eliminating it from your diet is one of the simplest and most profound health improvements you can make.

french fries unhealthy
French Fries (and Nearly All Commercially Fried Foods)
When potatoes are cooked in trans fat at high temperatures, all sorts of interesting and very unpleasant things occur.

Foods that are fried in vegetable oils like canola, soybean, safflower, corn, and other seed and nut oils are particularly problematic. These polyunsaturated fats easily become rancid when exposed to oxygen and produce large amounts of damaging free radicals in the body. They are also very susceptible to heat-induced damage from cooking. What is not commonly known is that these oils can actually cause aging, clotting, inflammation, cancer and weight gain.

It is theoretically possible to create a more "healthy" French fry if you cook it in a healthy fat like virgin coconut oil. Due to its high saturated fat content, coconut oil is extremely stable and is not damaged by the high temperatures of cooking. This is why coconut oil should be the only oil you use to cook with.

Chips
Most commercial chips, and this includes corn chips, potato chips, tortilla chips, you name it, are high in trans fat. Fortunately, some companies have caught on to the recent media blitz about the dangers of trans fat and have started to produce chips without trans fat.

However, the high temperatures used to cook them will potentially cause the formation of carcinogenic substances like acrylamide, and this risk remains even if the trans fat is removed.

Fried Non-Fish Seafood
This category represents the culmination of non-healthy aspects of food. Fried shrimp, clams, oysters, lobsters, and so on have all the issues of trans fat and acrylamide mentioned above, plus an added risk of mercury.

Seafood is loaded with toxic mercury and shellfish like shrimp and lobsters can be contaminated with parasites and resistant viruses that may not even be killed with high heat. These creatures, considered scavenger animals, consume foods that may be harmful for you.

Eating these foods gives you a quadruple dose of toxins--trans fat, acrylamide, mercury and possibly parasites or viruses--with every bite.

If you have a taste for seafood, there's an easy solution. It's best to avoid your local fish fry and try delicious wild caught Alaskan salmon that has been proven to be free of harmful levels of mercury and other contaminants.

Hot Carob Drink Healthier Than Hot Cocoa

Since going through the ER Fat Burn and ER Detox programs I'm extra careful about what food we eat. I stopped all coffee. Drink tons of herbal teas and water everyday.

I live in Minnesota, the frozen tundra. When it's 6 degrees I want hot chocolate but after reading the ingredients on the Swiss Miss I knew it wasn't an option for my family.

Here are the ingredients:
sugar, corn syrup, modified whey, cocoa (processed with alkali), hydrogenated coconut oil, marshmallows (sugar, corn syrup, modified corn starch, gelatin, artificial flavor), nonfat milk, calcium carbonate, less than 2% of: salt, dipotassium phosphate, mono - and diglycerides, artificial flavor, carrageenan.

OK, here's my hot chocolate drink:
1 cup milk (raw if you can find it, at least non-homogenized)
1 tablespoon Carob powder
1 tablespoon raw honey
1/2 teaspoon organic pure real vanilla extract.

Mix all ingredients, heat until hot, DO NOT BOIL.

Drink up and enjoy. It is very good and good for you.

Carob powder has no caffeine, no chocolate, no added sugar, it's naturally sweet.

Foods to avoid if Food Bugaboos concern you.

I wanted to go a little deeper with the food bugaboos post here. These foods are the cause of many diseases, obesity and other health concerns. If more people knew what to look for maybe we could turn our health around. Maybe you could take back your body, like I have!

Foods most likely to contain Food Bugaboos.

Fast food
Chain restaurant food
Sodas and diet sodas
Sports drinks and other enriched waters, eg Vitamin Water
Store bought dressings, dips, spreads, candy, chips, pies, cookies and other baked goods.
TV dinners
Packaged diet food
Commercial pizza
Most hot dogs, sausages and lunch meats - find out from the butcher or meat buyer for the store.

I found it really easy to stay away for the food bugaboos. The one I missed was salad dressing. I love Ranch dressing. Now I use coconut oil, Himalayan salt, organic black pepper, garlic and maybe onion. Yum!

WFN is working on a food list. Stay tuned for news about the next ER Fat Burn starting Jan. 24, 09. We will have two programs this time. The program with Dr. Heidi and a new do-it-yourself online program. More about both later.

What food bugaboos do you want to give up the most?
