If You Eat Tyson Chicken - you need to know this...

Tyson Foods, the world's largest meat processor and the second largest chicken producer in the U.S., has admitted that it injects its chickens with antibiotics before they hatch and then labels them as raised without antibiotics.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has told Tyson to stop using the antibiotic-free label, but the company has sued for the right to keep using it.

Poultry farmers regularly treat chickens and other birds with antibiotics. But scientists have become increasingly concerned that the routine use of antibiotics in animal agriculture may accelerate the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

After Tyson began labeling its chicken antibiotic-free, the USDA warned the company that such labels were not truthful, because Tyson regularly treats its birds' feed with bacteria-killing ionophores. Tyson argued that ionophores are antimicrobials rather than antibiotics, and are not used on human patients. Tyson suggested a compromise which was eventually accepted by the USDA -- they would use a label reading "raised without antibiotics that impact antibiotic resistance in humans."

Tyson's competitors Perdue Farms Inc., Sanderson Farms Inc. and Foster Farms sued, and in May 2008, a federal judge ruled in their favor and told Tyson to stop using the label. Not long after, USDA inspectors discovered that in addition to using ionophores, Tyson was regularly injecting its chicken eggs with gentamicin, an antibiotic that has been used for more than 30 years.

The agency told Tyson that based on the new discovery, it would no longer consider the antibiotic-free label "truthful and accurate." Tyson objected again, claiming that because the antibiotics are injected before the chickens hatched, the birds can truthfully be said to be "raised without antibiotics." Tyson has filed a lawsuit against the USDA, claiming that the agency had improperly changed the definition of "raised without antibiotics" to include the treatment of eggs.

Better Colon Health After Detox

Another major benefit from the detox cycle. My colon loves me! I've had a sluggish colon for a long time. I wasn't really constipated but I knew the toxins were staying in my body longer than they should and that concerned me.

After I came off the 5 day juice fast I took up to 6 tablespoons of flax seeds a day to get my colon working again. It took 5 days but now I have 2 bowel movements a day and I feel wonderful. I'm releasing toxins, my skin loves it, my stomach loves it, my body loves it. No more bloating, gas or upset stomach!

I will make the detox an annual cycle for my body. I keep remembering things about the detox so I'll keep posting as I think of the wonderful, amazing things that happened.

Dr. Heidi might do another detox in the Spring after the Jan. ER fat burn program. Stay tuned for news about both cycles.

Ella Hope Hauschildt 7-year-old Loses Battle With Brain Tumor

On MAY 28, 2008 I wrote about how a local 7-year-old girl seemed to be winning the battle over a brain tumor. Read what her family did here.

I'm sad to say little Ella Hope did lose the battle. She will be missed by all who she shared her short life with.

Ella Hope Hauschildt, 7, of Lakeville passed away peacefully after a courageous 11 1/2 month battle with Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) a rare brain tumor. Ella was proceeded in death by her sister Emmerson Joy and her Nana Lola Curtis. She will be missed by her loving parents John and Erika , her little brother Caden, her Papa Bill Curtis, her Grandparents Betty and Jack Seidl, Wayne and Patti Hauschildt, her Aunts and Uncles Laura and John Lange, Lisa and Gregg Kruse, Kirsten Curtis and Jim Laitnen, Lori Mattson, her cousins Jordan Lange, Mackenzie Kruse, Carter Lange, Morgan Matson, Wyatt Kruse, Paige Matson, Quinn Kruse, Bodhi Laitenen, her best friend Taylor Glimsdahl along with Team ELLA and many wonderful friends.

Ella was a vibrant little girl who loved life. She spent the majority of her time dancing, singing, reading, writing, drawing and most of all being outside. She attended Lakeview Elementary and was blessed by wonderful teachers so much that she longed to be a teacher herself when she grew up. Little did she know that she fulfilled that dream by teaching all of us to live life to the fullest everyday and to not worry about the small stuff. She will be forever in our hearts.

In Lieu of Flowers please make donations in Ella’s honor to Just One More Day www.justonemoreday.org

My Vision Improved After Detox Cleanse

I'm back on solid food after the 5 day intensive juice fast. During the five days I lost 6 pounds of toxins (even skinny people have fat, it's stored around our organs), lost 3 inches from my pot belly, lost all nicotine cravings (without use of any nicotine replacement therapy like the patch), lost all cravings for salty foods like chips.

I made an appointment to get my eyes checked because I still couldn't see well. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that my farsighted vision had improved to the point that I can go back into contact lens and just use cheap reading glasses if I need to. Wow, this was great news, no more bifocals.

Note - the only thing I did in the last month was the detox, cleanse cycle with Dr. Heidi Dulay. During this detox I quit smoking and got rid of years of toxins in nicotine, food and environmental toxins.

Pretty amazing how my vision got better when the toxins were flushed away. Since Glaucoma runs in my family I have very good reasons to be happy about my vision improving!

Check back to find out if Dr. Heidi will do another detox cycle next spring. The next ER fat burn cycle is in Jan. 09 and the detox is one of the cycles of ER fat burn.

Days Three - Five Intensive Juice Fast

Yahoo, almost done with my 5 day intensive juice fast. I forgot to mention I've been doing a dry skin brush before taking a hot bath with dead sea salt every night. This was another way to release more toxins.

Friday, day 3 going good. Started taking enemas today. I went out to restock my fruits and veggies. I took fruit juice and veggie broth with me in case I got hungry.

My vision is improving a little bit. I found I can read better without my glasses.

No hunger today. I did have heartburn at night after adding flax oil to my veggie juice. Dr. Heidi said the oil could have been rancid or my body just wasn't accepting it. I didn't test it again.

Was asleep by 10 PM. Slept well after the heatburn passed.

Saturday, day 4 juice fast. Good day, not hungry, heartburn from day 3 gone. Vision still not great. Enemas helping to clear toxins. Good day, feel good, have energy and no nicotine cravings!

Asleep by 10PM after hot bath.

Sunday, day 5 and last day of juice fast.

Felt good when I got up. Started feeling hungry around noon. Felt more hungry all day. I think I was too active and using more energy than I was taking in from my juices. Luckily it's the last day, Monday I start back on solid food.

I forgot to mention I came down with the flu on the first day of the detox eating. I never took any meds for it because I was working on detoxing. Maybe not being able to smell food made it easier, who knows for sure.

Day 5 was the hardest, I was hungry, tired, cold and felt crabby, along with vision still not good. I went to bed early just to get my mind off food!

Days One and Two of Intensive Juice Fast

Week two of detox: Days 1 and 2 of intensive juice fast.

Wednesday day one of intensive juice fast started with colon purge with salts, supplied by Dr. Heidi. Made friends with my toilet for four hours. Was glad to release the toxins and flush them away!

Drank fruit and veggie juices, veggie broth, tea and water. Spent the day resting. Felt great until 6 PM. Then I crashed big time. Couldn't focus visually or mentally. I couldn't think of how to spell the easiest word, couldn't speak clearly and my head felt like it wasn't attached to my body. It was a scary feeling. I went to sleep at 8PM and slept the night through.

Except for my vision, I felt 100% normal the next morning. Dr. Heidi gave us info about how we could feel while detoxing. I knew I had crashed so hard because my body was expelling the nicotine toxins.

Thursday day two I felt good all day. Still making myself rest and stayed off the computer most of the day to give my eyes a break. My vision was still not good. Never felt hungry. My juices were enough to keep me full. Remember my digestive system is on vacation. I've done the colon purge and I'm taking in pure juice. I was sleep by 9PM and slept through the night.

Day three to five next post.

Week One - Detox - Cleanse with real food

This is the first of my mini series about the Detox program I did with Dr. Heidi Dulay.

Let me start with week one. This week we stopped all animal proteins. Ate all fruits and veggies. I did eat one egg a day to keep my energy level up.

Drank lots of water (filtered), tea and kombucha.

We were building up a nutritional reserve before the next step, 5 day intensive juice fast.

I felt wonderful through this process and noticed my cravings for salty foods starting going away.
Didn't feel hungry and if I did I would eat.

My nicotine cravings were becoming more manageable, still there but I could resist.

I felt cold at night and was asleep by 10 pm every night.

Food Bugaboos from Dr. Heidi Dulay

good food, bad food
I've learned so many things about food while working with Dr. Heidi through the ER fat burn program and now the ER detox program. Most of these things have been hidden from the public and that's such a shame. It's all real food, the kind our great-grandparents ate, and they didn't have the common diseases that affect even our toddlers today.

Dr. Heidi hasn't spent a lot of time telling us what not to eat. Our focus has been on what real food to eat and why.

A bugaboo is defined in the dictionary as "an object of fear or alarm."

How does bugaboo relate to food? Simple, there are foods we should fear and knowing what harm they cause should be a cause for alarm.

Here are some big food bugaboos.

Refined sugars

Refined grains: White bread, white rice, white pasta, white pizza dough, white couscous, etc.

Damaged vegetables oils:
Hydrogenated (trans fats)
Refined
Highly heated

Highly processed foods, including most of these:
Chips
Crackers
Cold Cereals
Packaged snack foods

Distorted food:
Microwaved More about microwaved food here.
Genetically modified - Bio-engineered
Irradiated

Artificial food:
Sugar substitutes
Imitation food: maple syrup, whipped cream, milk, cream, yogurt, etc.

Foods containing chemicals:
Preservatives
Flavors, including most 'natural flavors', MSG
Food colorings Do you eat crude oil?
Additives for texture, manufacturing ease

Industrial meats
Good meat, bad meat
What's really in a hot dog?

Farmed fish
Industrial eggs Pasture perfect eggs
Non-organic dairy, including butter, cheese (raw not labeled 'organic' is good), cream and milk
Pasteurized, homogenized milk - homogenized is dangerous.

Conventional produce (not organic - grown with pesticided and chemical fertilizers)
canned fruits and veggies, especially tomatoes. In glass jars OK.

Smoked food

If you would like more detail on why these foods are on Dr. Heidi's Bugaboos food list, make a comment here or email me directly. I'll put together another post based on the areas you ask about.

The Sensitive Seven - Most Allergenic Foods

I'm still eating on the detox program. I'm on the eating out phase of the 5 day intensive juice fast (which went very smooth and I feel wonderful!).

One of the things we do on easing back into solid food is watch for any food allergies we might find. Signs of food allergies can be post nasal drip, headaches, upset stomach, itching, a variety of things.

Here are the seven foods I'll add back into my diet one at a time so I can test for any sensitivity.

The Sensitive Seven (from Elson Haas, The False Fat Diet)

Most common allergenic foods, including organic forms of these and all products made from these foods:

1. Wheat
2. Pasteurized dairy especially cow's milk
3. Sugar
4. Corn
5. Soy
6. Supermarket eggs
7. Peanuts

I haven't tested any of these foods yet. I don't eat supermarket eggs or soy but I'm certain I've consumed these products in other foods. I will test them just to see how my new squeaky clean body reacts to them.

I'm still going to write more about how my cell memories have changed and I was able to get over the nicotine cravings in a week. Hope to have that post by Monday.

Thank you for all the notes of congrats I've gotten about letting go of the nicotine. That is the reason I did the detox. Dr. Heidi helped me do something for my health and maybe my life that I haven't been able to do alone for 30 years!

Happy weekend all

She's Taking Back Her Body and Health With Real Food...

Today I bring you a guest post from Tracy. I asked her to do a post for us because she is being successful with weight loss and gaining her health back. It's all done with real food - something that rules my universe. She has taken back her body with real food and other lifestyle changes. Read on....

"What a pleasure to be invited to share my journey to health here at Whole Food And More! It truly has been a journey, and as I continue to grow more healthy, I realize how far I have come, yet how far I still have to go!"

"I have been overweight my entire life. We were a plate-cleaning family, and because I was a latchkey kid, I didn't spend much time being active. With an additional genetic propensity to carry excess weight, and subsequently the devastating early loss of my mother to cancer (I was 9), I packed on the pounds, despite all the ridicule from peers and nagging by my dad.

Pregnancy was really hard on me, as I gained 90 lbs with my first child, and over 60 with the second. Unfortunately, I didn't ever really lose the weight from either one. By my late 30's, I was a junk-food junkie, and a Dr. Pepper-aholic. My two liter per day habit not only kept me slowly gaining, it also was destroying my health. I had chronic bronchitis, and had to have antibiotics multiple times every year. There were only a few brief weeks throughout the year that I didn't cough. I was a heavy user of over the counter and prescription drugs.

Just before my 40th birthday, my husband and I went to Cancun for a few days. While there, I badly sprained my knee while walking on the beach. A visit to the local doctor earned me an x-ray and a cortisone shot. A few days later when we went home, I noticed that I had no energy at all. I felt feverish and lethargic. I slept all the time. By the end of the first week home, I went to my doctor to find out what was wrong with me. His first frightening diagnosis was Hodgkin's Disease/ lymphoma. More tests were run, and while they were doing some scan or another, the fever broke and I knew whatever it was had finally gone away. (It was actually an allergic reaction to the shot, I discovered years later after a subsequent injection caused the identical reaction.)

I healed rapidly--so much that the doctor (who never really did figure out what was wrong!) told me it was a miracle. It is amazing what being faced with a life threatening disease will make you think about! With my healing complete, I had a new lease on life, and began to consider what my life was becoming, and whether the path I was on would take me where I wanted to be. About the same time, a Lenten church service provoked me to give up my beloved Dr. Pepper. I went cold turkey and have not had more than a sip or two in over 8 years.

In the fall of that year, 2000, I joined Curves to try to get a bit more mobile and flexible. I didn't really think I would lose weight, but I did think I should be able to bend and get up and down easier than I could for someone my age. I refused to weigh or measure when I first started. I was so large that many of the machines rubbed on my hips or other body parts when I was using them. About four months after I joined, I had dropped a few dress sizes-- from 32 to 26, and was starting to feel pretty good. At that time I weighed and measured for the first time. I was 340 lbs.

I continued to slowly lose pounds and inches for another few months, then started taking a popular athletic nutrition supplement. I lost down into the 200's with that, then joined Weight Watchers and made it down to 263 before I started gaining it back. Within three years, I was back at 350 lbs. and experiencing one joint issue after another. I visited the chiropractor weekly for almost two years! I tried all sorts of things, then went to a naturapathic doctor someone recommended, and she started me on the path of health.

I lost a few pounds, but eventually stopped doing many of the supplements and cleanses she recommended and put it back on. In the summer of 2007, I was doing a program that introduced me to Dr. Mark Hyman's book, Ultra-Metabolism. My husband and I decided we needed to really apply some of the healthy principles that were presented, and I began to lose again. Within a few months, I had lost down to 314.5 and stayed there for about 6 months.

It was while doing this program that we discovered my husband was allergic (or at least intolerant) to wheat and that I am intolerant to soy. He was raised on a wheat farm, and suffered horribly with seasonal allergies from the time he was tiny until this year.

The main benefit from this program was that we learned how to eat to feed the nutritional needs of our bodies instead of our psyche or our taste buds! So, in the summer of 2008, almost a year later, when I read Kevin Trudeau's book, "The Weight Loss Cure"... I was adequately prepared to take the final leap into whole, unprocessed, organic, grass fed and free range foods.

Like giving up soft drinks, this is another decision I won't ever look back from. The health benefits have been immense, as has the weight loss! (currently 256 lbs.) My chronic joint pain is completely gone. I haven't had a cold or flu in over a year now. Seasonal allergies are a distant memory, and even my horrible intolerance for scents and fragrances has diminished. My energy is back to what it was when I was 20, and my stamina is amazing!

Discovering the foods that help me be healthy, and making the decision to invest in my health instead of paying for the loss of it, have been wonderful and liberating events! At the current rate I am losing, by my 50th birthday, I should be at my goal weight of 160 lbs. (I am 5'9" tall) and have vibrant health and vitality. I am excited about life instead of afraid of it.

There is no shortcut to health. It is a long and tedious --very DAILY-- process, more so if there is a long history of personal abuse. But the rewards along the way are glorious to behold! The overcoming of lifelong sicknesses, relief from chronic joint pain, deep, restful and renewing sleep, and learning to pay attention to the messages the body sends are all benefits of seeking a healthy lifestyle.

Life is stressful enough without having to worry about losing our health, and with a proper diet and other healthful activities, we can live life until we die, instead of watching it go by.

Tracy is from Tulsa, OK, and has a blog about her weight loss journey here, and a variety of healthy and traditional recipes here. Her main blog is Thoughts from Miller Manor, where she writes about her middle aged, empty nest, multi-faceted, daily life."

Thank you Tracy for sharing your journey. Your story is beautiful and touched me deeply!

Easing Out of a Intensive Juice Fast

Yesterday I wrote briefly about the results of my 5 day intensive juice fast. I was going to write today about how my cell memories are and have changed. I've changed my mind after I got several emails and a question from my post here.

Wow, sounds awesome!

I wonder though, how did you "get back"? I've read you have to be careful when starting eating food again after a fasting. Taking it very easy (but you probably already know this!:) Leo comments

Well Leo you are exactly right about easing back into eating. But let me back up to the beginning of this 4 weeks detox program.

Here are the steps we are taking, we are not finished.
4-Week program.
Jump starts weight loss. Relies on real food, solid and liquid. Stages:
*Days 1-10: Solid food cleanse
*Days 11-15 - liquid food cleanse: extreme or moderate
*Days 16-30: Discovery of food sensitivities and transition to next cycle.

Okay the first 10 days I ate all organic fruits and veggies, cut all animal protein and fats (including my cod liver oil), used coconut oil and flax oil often for energy. Took a micro-algae superfood for protein.

This is necessary to prepare your body for the total juice fast. Think of like this, you need to start a gentle detox with solid foods while increasing your antioxidant levels. Starting a total juice fast without any preparation is dangerous, in my opinion. The toxins need to have a way to leave the body or they will be stored in fat cells along with the other toxins. Start with a solid food cleanse for safety and biggest results.

Day 11: we did a colon purge with special salts (supplied by Dr. Heidi). This was not unpleasant for me.

All juice for the next 5 days, fruits juices diluted, veggie juices with micro algae, full or diluted. Veggie mineral broth for dinner, water, herbal teas, coconut tea (hot water and coconut oil), and more water. We had to drink a gallon of liquid a day from all sources. By the way we picked what to juice based on Dr. Heidi's list of Detox foods. No supplements at all , not even the Pops I take everyday.

Day 16 to 18: Easing back into solid foods. Started very small, piece of fruit, blended toddy (fruit, water, micro algae, coconut oil), steamed veggies, veggie soup.

Day 17: Moved up to adding small amounts of gentle animal proteins, Caprotein Goat-milk Protein or Kefir. I'm back on my Pops, they are more than a vitamin pill, they are adding back the probiotics and prebiotics along with digestive enzymes, fruits, veggies, spices, herbs and more. Helping my colon and gut to re-colonize.

I'm on day 17 now so today I will add avocado to a blended soup. Along with the fruits, veggies, seed sauce etc. Tomorrow I can add butter (the real thing from grass-fed cows).

So thanks to all the folks who questioned how to ease out of a detox cleanse. I'm happy to share parts of my experience with you.

Dr. Heidi does this program once a year, but there has been good response from people wanting to do it sooner so she might offer it again in the Spring. Stay tuned or sign up for my Private News About WFN (Whole Food Nation) in upper right corner of this blog.

5 Day Intensive Juice Fast Results

I've just completed my intensive 5 day juice fast. This was the first time I've done a juice fast. It always scared me in the past and thought it was only done for weight loss.

I'm doing a total body detox, cleanse. I feel great and wanted to take a minute to write some of the things that have happened in the past 2 weeks.

I lost the pot belly, went from gut measure of 34 to 31. This is not a waist measurement, it is the largest part of my gut.

Lost 6 pounds, this was from the fat and toxins around my organs. Even skinny people have fat.

No stomach problems at all.

No cravings for salty chips, chocolate, crackers or coffee.

The biggest thing:

Drum roll please.....
I stopped craving nicotine after smoking off and on for 30 years. I've been a closet smoker for years and quit more often than I can remember. The problem was fighting the cravings long term.

Stay tuned tomorrow: I'll write more about how my cell memories have changed.

Foods to Warm You up or Cool You Down

Happy Friday - today is day 10 of my detox cleanse cycle - and day 3 of my intense juice fast! The detox program I'm doing is food based. No supplements at all, not even the Pops I take everyday. Just food, cool... Anyway, here's a little tip anyone can use when they are too warm or cold.

A question came up about why many of us felt cold. Here's Dr. Heidi's reply:

"Detoxing tends to lower body temperature. With less metabolic activity, temperature goes down. That's another big reason to drink warm water now." Dr. Heidi says.

"You may also want to stay off salads, which are cooling, especially cucumber. Raw foods in general are more cooling than cooked foods".

Here's some advice from traditional Chinese medicine, which is big on the effects of foods on warming and cooling the body." (regardless of whether they're cooked or raw):

Common cooling foods are: lettuce, celery, radish, cucumber, summer squash, zucchini, tomatoes and many leafy vegetables. Root vegetables tend to have neutral thermal qualities.

Warming fruits and veggies include: cabbage, kale, mustard greens, onions, garlic, winter squash, parsnip, leek, chive, scallion, cherries and dates.

"Warm soups with added coconut oil would be great. Stay with a double dose of cod liver oil to support your thyroid, which is the body's master temperature regulator."

Obese kids have arteries like 45-year-olds -study

"We found that the state of the arteries of these children is more typical of a 45-year-old than of someone their own age."

"The arteries of many obese children and teenagers are as thick and stiff as those of 45-year-olds, a sign that such children could have severe cardiovascular disease at a much younger age than their parents unless their condition is reversed, researchers said Tuesday.

"It's possible that they will have heart disease in their 20s and 30s," said Dr. Geetha Raghuveer of the University of Missouri at Kansas City, who led the study presented at a New Orleans meeting of the American Heart Assn. More here...

What can we do as parents to change this for our children? I feel it is related to what our kids eat. Go back to real food and see if our kids get healthy. Think?

Dr. Russell Blaylock - So, what is an excitotoxin?

There are a growing number of clinicians and basic scientists who are convinced that excitotoxins play a critical role in the development of several neurological disorders, including migraines, seizures, infections, abnormal neural development, certain endocrine disorders, specific types of obesity, and especially the neurodegenerative diseases; a group of diseases which includes: ALS, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and olivopontocerebellar degeneration.

An enormous amount of both clinical and experimental evidence has accumulated over the past decade supporting this basic premise. Yet, the FDA still refuses to recognize the immediate and long term danger to the public caused by the practice of allowing various excitotoxins to be added to the food supply, such as MSG, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, and aspartame.

The amount of these neurotoxins added to our food has increased enormously since their first introduction. For example, since 1948 the amount of MSG added to foods has doubled every decade. By 1972, 262,000 metric tons were being added to foods.

Over 800 million pounds of aspartame have been consumed in various products since it was first approved. Ironically, these food additives have nothing to do with preserving food or protecting its integrity. They are all used to alter the taste of food. MSG, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, and natural flavoring are used to enhance the taste of food so that it tastes better. Aspartame is an artificial sweetener.

The public must be made aware that these toxins (excitotoxins) are not present in just a few foods but rather in almost all processed foods. In many cases they are being added in disguised forms, such as natural flavoring, spices, yeast extract, textured protein, soy protein extract, etc.

Experimentally, we know that when subtoxic (below toxic levels) of excitotoxins are given to animals, they experience full toxicity. Also, liquid forms of excitotoxins, as occurs in soups, gravies and diet soft drinks are more toxic than that added to solid foods. This is because they are more rapidly absorbed and reach higher blood levels.

So, what is an excitotoxin?

These are substances, usually amino acids, that react with specialized receptors in the brain in such a way as to lead to destruction of certain types of brain cells. Glutamate is one of the more commonly known excitotoxins. MSG is the sodium salt of glutamate. This amino acid is a normal neurotransmitter in the brain. In fact, it is the most commonly used neurotransmitter by the brain.

Defenders of MSG and aspartame use, usually say: How could a substance that is used normally by the brain cause harm?

This is because, glutamate, as a neurotransmitter, is used by the brain only in very , very small concentrations - no more than 8 to 12ug. When the concentration of this transmitter rises above this level the neurons begin to fire abnormally. At higher concentrations, the cells undergo a specialized process of cell death.

Ten Reasons to Throw Out Your Microwave Oven

microwave oven dangers
There's a microwave in most homes. People use them for anything from heating water to cooking full meals (think of all the packaged meals that have microwave instruction along with stove top.)

If you care about what your family eats you should care about how the food is cooked.

From the conclusions of Swiss, Russian and German scientific clinical studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting in our kitchens.

1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term -- permanent -- brain damage by "shorting out" electrical impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue].

2). The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.

3). Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.

4). The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual [long term, permanent] within the human body.

5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.

6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.

7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths [tumors]. This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in America.

8). The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.

9). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.

10). Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence.

Free Hugs Campaign Banned...

How it started......Standing there in the arrivals terminal, watching other passengers meeting their waiting friends and family, with open arms and smiling faces, hugging and laughing together, I wanted someone out there to be waiting for me. To be happy to see me. To smile at me. To hug me.

Sometimes, a hug is all what we need. Free hugs is a real life controversial story of Juan Mann, A man who's sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger to brighten up their lives. In this age of social disconnectivity and lack of human contact, the effects of the Free Hugs campaign became phenomenal.

As this symbol of human hope spread accross the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs campaign BANNED. What we then witness is the true spirit of humanity come together in what can only be described as awe inspiring. In the Spirit of the free hugs campaign, PASS THIS TO A FRIEND and HUG A STRANGER! Signs of Toxic Body Overload

I'm on day one of a detox diet. I'm always concerned about the food we eat hurting our body more than helping.

Read the following symptoms of toxic overload, how toxic are you?

Headaches
Constipation
Bloating or gas
Heartburn or indigestion
Nausea
Tiredness or fatigue
Frequent colds or flu, runny nose or constant sneezing, clogged sinuses, asthma
Puffiness or dark circles under eyes
Painful joints
Congestion
Shortness of breath
Water retention
Dark colored, cloudy, strong smelling urine
Hives, rashes or dry skin
Pimples
Cellulite
Mood swings
Anxiety, fear or nervousness
Sleeplessness
Depression
Brain fog, confusion or poor concentration

Even though I was eating pretty good I still had many of these signs of toxins in my body. I'm on day one of a 30 day detox. It's all done with real food, no pills for me. I'm being monitored by Dr. Heidi Dulay so she can make sure I'm eating right while detoxing. (The class is full)

I'll post more about how I'm doing. Right now I'm not hungry, don't have any cravings and feel fine.

What do you think about detoxing once a year? Is it helpful and needed?

What's in a hot dog?

Are you like me with reading labels on food? It can be very confusing!

I did this post asking what food this was.

Here are the ingredients again:

Ingredients: Pork, Water, Beef, Contains Less Than 2% of Corn Syrup, Salt, Sodium Lactate, Flavor, Sodium Phosphates, Monosodium Glutamate, Sodium Diacetate, Sodium Erythorbate (MADE FROM SUGAR), Sodium Nitrate.

And - What is this?

Ingredients: Organic beef, water, sea salt, celery juice, sodium lactate (from beets), lactic acid starter culture (not from milk) organic onion powder, organic spices, organic paprika.

What do you think?

Both are from Hot Dogs.

First one is Oscar Mayer Smokies

Last one Applegate Farms Uncured Beef Hot Dogs.
I only buy uncured meats for my family, more about that soon...

I bought the Applegate Uncured Hot Dogs for a camping trip. I didn't let anyone know they were any different. Everyone said they were good - I don't eat hot dogs so I can't say how they taste. My 10-year-old son ate them and said it was good.

From the USDA site

The most popular of all categories, the skinless varieties, have been stripped of their casings after cooking. Water or ice, or both, may be used to facilitate chopping or mixing or to dissolve curing ingredients. The finished products may not contain more than 30% fat or no more than 10% water, or a combination of 40% fat and added water. Up to 3.5% non-meat binders and extenders (such as nonfat dry milk, cereal, or dried whole milk) or 2% isolated soy protein may be used, but must be shown in the ingredients statement on the product's label by its common name.

Casings
Some hot dogs have a casing, or a thin skin. If the species of the casing is different than that of the hot dog, the label must say so. For example, if a turkey hot dog has a pork casing, the label must list the pork casing on the ingredients list. If the casing is artificially colored, the label must indicate this
as well.

Byproducts, Variety Meats
"Frankfurter, Hot Dog, Wiener, or Bologna With Byproducts" or "With Variety Meats" are made according to the specifications for cooked and/or smoked sausages (see above), except they consist of not less than 15% of one or more kinds of raw skeletal muscle meat with raw meat byproducts. The byproducts (heart, kidney, or liver, for example) must be named with the derived species and be individually named in the ingredients statement.

Species
Beef Franks or Pork Franks are cooked and/or smoked sausage products made according to the specifications above, but with meat from a single species and do not include byproducts.

Turkey Franks or Chicken Franks can contain turkey or chicken and turkey or chicken skin and fat in proportion to a turkey or chicken carcass.

Mechanically Separated Meat (MSM)
Mechanically separated meat is a paste-like and batter-like meat product produced by forcing bones, with attached edible meat, under high pressure through a sieve or similar device to separate the bone from the edible meat tissue.

In 1982, a final rule published by FSIS on mechanically separated meat said it was safe and established a standard of identity for the food product. Some restrictions were made on how much can be used and the type of products in which it can be used. These restrictions were based on concerns for limited intake of certain components in MSM, like calcium. Due to FSIS regulations enacted in 2004 to protect consumers against Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, mechanically separated beef is considered inedible and is prohibited for use as human food. It is not permitted in hot dogs or any other processed product. Mechanically separated pork is permitted and must be labeled as "mechanically separated pork" in the ingredients statement. Hot dogs can contain no more than 20% mechanically separated pork.

Mechanically Separated Poultry (MSP)
Mechanically separated poultry is a paste-like and batter-like poultry product produced by forcing bones, with attached edible tissue, through a sieve or similar device under high pressure to separate bone from the edible tissue. Mechanically separated poultry has been used in poultry products since the late 1960's. In 1995, a final rule on mechanically separated poultry said it was safe and could be used without restrictions. However, it must be labeled as "mechanically separated chicken or turkey" in the product's ingredients statement. The final rule became effective November 4, 1996. Hot dogs can contain any amount of mechanically separated chicken or turkey.

Give kids real food not drugs

ReutersHealth published a study showing that more and more U.S. children are being given drugs to fight chronic conditions such as asthma and hyperactivity.

From 2002 to 2005 prescriptions for medicines to treat type-2 diabetes doubled, asthma medications rose by more than 46 percent, medicines for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder increased by more than 40 percent and prescriptions for cholesterol-lowering drugs were up by 15 percent. Full story here.

In a report published in the November issue of Pediatrics, they said the increases could mean that chronic conditions are on the rise.

But they said the trend could also reflect other factors such as changes in the way doctors prescribe drugs and better screening that identifies more chronic conditions.

My feelings about how to prevent giving drugs to children is simple. Teach families about real food! Give our kids real whole foods and see if their health improves. Parents need to be responsible for children so we need to start with getting rid of the junk food.

My son was a picky eater, if it wasn't frozen quick foods he didn't like it - until he learned about real food. Now he loves grass-fed beef, pastured chicken and the eggs from happy chickens. He's in excellent health, gets good grades in school, races his BMX bike every weekend and toned his body in the last year. He gained 2 pounds in a year and is now at the perfect weight for his height.

I didn't stop with real food, I looked at the kids vitamin he was taking. It was all synthetic ingredients so now he takes the same whole food multi that I take. Yes we eat right most of the time - the multi vitamin is added benefit, not a replacement for real food. No vitamin will replace a poor diet!
