August 29, 2008 – Trans-Ocean Products, Inc. of Bellingham, Washington is recalling its 4 ounce Cracked Pepper Style Smoked Salmon Lot No 54933-2 because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Cracked Pepper Style Smoked Salmon, 4 ounce packages were distributed to three
supermarket chains in seven states:
Brookshire Brothers in Texas and Louisiana
Price Choppers in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Vermont
Giant Eagle in Ohio and Pennsylvania

The lot number is ink jetted on the back panel of the package, just right of center.

The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by Trans-Ocean Products revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in one 4 ounce package of Cracked Pepper Style Smoked Salmon.

Distribution of the product has been suspended while the FDA and Trans-Ocean Products investigate the source of the problem.

Consumers that have purchased Trans Ocean ProductsCracked Pepper Style Smoked Salmon are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Cinnamon Speeds Metabolism - All Natural

Cinnamon is more than just a great spice for baking. I learned from Dr. Heidi's "Little Spa" ER I weight control program that cinnamon speeds up the metabolism so adding cinnamon to drinks or real food can help weight loss, fat burning. Cinnamon is good for arthritis, heart health, type 2 diabetes and blood pressure. To read more about these health benefits read WHFoods here.

I've been adding cinnamon to my body toddy drink. It tastes wonderful and is a good fit with the other fat burning ingredients.

Cinnamon is available in stick or ground form. It may be tempting to buy the jumbo economy-size container - don't because cinnamon starts to lose it's flavor, smell and nutritional benefits after about 6 months for ground or in about a year for stick form.

There are four main types of cinnamon. Ceylon is considered "true cinnamon" and is what you should look for. Ceylon cinnamon has a slightly richer and sweeter taste. Most of the cinnamon in the U.S. is the less expensive Chinese cassia or Indonesian cinnamon. Ceylon and Chinese cinnamon are often labeled the same. If you want the "true" Ceylon cinnamon Mountain Rose Herbs - Cinnamon (Sweet) Powder Origin- Madagascar is a great online source. I ordered mine from them and was not disappointed.

The Ceylon cinnamon sticks can be ground by using a coffee grinder or cheese grater. The others do not grind well. I don't know if there is any benefit to using whole stick cinnamon or ground.

Again do not buy in bulk unless you know you will use it all within 6 months or if you are using it for holiday crafts like we do!

Are Your Vitamins Safe?

When you buy vitamins do you know what the ingredients mean and what benefit or potential harm they will cause?

I didn't have a clue for many years. I fell for the marketing hype. I didn't know how to read and understand the labels. Well that changed last year after the pet food recalls. I started helping pet lovers understand what is really in pet food. Then the light bulb went off and I realized I was feeding my human family synthetic ingredients, in our vitamin supplements. I went on a learning journey and was so shocked that our health is not always the most important thing in the vitamin industry. It's profit driven for many.

How do you feel when taking a vitamin supplement?

Do you sleep restfully and wake refreshed?
Do you have energy to chase after the kids or make love with your partner after a day at work?
Do you have regular bowel movements?
Do you feel happy and motivated every day?
Are you rarely sick with colds or stomach problems?
If you answered no to any of these you might be taking synthetic vitamins.

Answer yes to the following questions and it could be the vitamin.

Do you toss and turn when you should be sleeping?
Are you drained of energy most days?
Do you have dark yellow, strong smelling urine?
Are you constipated or have bouts of diarrhea?
Do you suffer memory loss, fatigue, depression or insomnia?
Not all vitamin supplements are created equally, even a whole food multi can have synthetic ingredients, additives and fillers including fiber*.

Here are 3 reports from Reuters Health, and New England Journal of Medicine about synthetic ingredients in vitamins.

1. Male smokers taking vitamins with synthetic Vitamin E and Beta Carotene have increase rates of lung cancer, heart attacks and increased death.

2. Birth defects increased for women on synthetic vitamin A, 400% increase before a study was halted.

3. Men get thickened arteries on synthetic Vitamin C. This is after only 18 months of taking a synthetic Vitamin C.
Get a free report to find out for yourself if your vitamin is synthetic and safe, if that's important to you.

* Fiber is good if it's not in your vitamin. Fiber is a cheap filler when used in a supplement. It takes space that should be saved for the expensive nutrients you are paying for in the supplement. Take fiber alone, if you need it.

Greener Pastures With La Cense Grass Fed Beef

Regular readers of this blog know how I feel about eating real food and I've written often about the benefits of grass fed meat. The ER I program (what I call weird food burns fat) is based on eating food from happy animals - grass fed meats. So I’m happy to help spread the word about a promotion La Cense Grass Fed Beef is running in honor of the slow food movement and to promote healthy eating habits - and humanity to animals. Their site, www.grassfedparty.com runs weekly giveaways and prizes for those sign up with a valid email address. It’s a fantastic promotion and extremely educational!

Please feel free to watch the YouTube announcement of the promotion.

Learn more about the purpose and agenda of Grass Fed Party: ( I know I've put a lot of info below - I ask you to please read it all to get a good sense about why grass fed beef is best for us and our Nation.)

Restoring Tradition
We want to restore the tradition of keeping animals in ways that allow them to act according to their nature for most of their lives, thus restoring the natural balance between animal, keeper, and the land. We believe in restoring the power of independent producers to be attendant in the life and well being of their cattle from birth to death. We believe in restoring the tradition of rangelands as grazing lands, considering their important role in maintaining the integrity of the natural biological and cultural features of the landscape.

Cow Welfare Reform
Grass-fed cows are happier, healthier and do not require hormones or antibiotics to stay healthy. A grass-fed diet works with a cow’s ruminant system, there are no feedlots or corn, only happy pasture raised cattle! A feedlot is a hot, crowded, stressful place for a cow. A grass-fed cow is a happy cow!

Healthcare
Grass-fed beef has been proven in numerous studies to have much less of the deadly E. Coli bacteria because grass-fed cattle are not crowded into feedlots nor do they eat a diet that inflames their stomachs like corn can. Not only that, but grass-fed meat is lower in fat and calories. The fat that grass-fed meat does have is high in healthy fats like Omega 3 fatty acids, CLA, folic acid, beta-carotene, essential vitamins, and anti-oxidants.

Combating Drugs
Grass-fed meat does not require the antibiotics that are necessary for cattle that are crowded into feedlots. 70 % of the antibiotics used in the United States are used on livestock. With grass-fed meats, the customer and America is given the ability to say no to antibiotics, but also hormones.

Making Ranching Work
We believe that we can make sustainable ranching work economically by educating more consumers and producers about the benefits of grass-fed beef. We believe that supporting Grass-fed products will give more ranchers the confidence to produce them. We believe that grass-fed production can help ranchers re-gain control of their livelihood and reduce dependence on large packers and buyers. Additionally, more conservation easements and legislation supporting estate tax breaks for ranchers looking to preserve a family ranch rather than sell to developers are also integral to making ranching work in the 21st Century.

Responsibility to the Environment
Grass-fed ranching is sustainable, and works with nature not against it. Grass-fed farming does not create toxic run off nor does it require fossil fuels like factory farming or feedlots do. Grass-fed ranching removes more CO2 than it creates and allowing animals to graze on marginal land is a responsible use of natural resources. Not only that, but pasture land can remove 40 tons of carbon per acre, while cultivated cropland can only remove 26 tons per acre.

Preserving and Enriching Rangelands
We believe that practices important to successful grass-fed beef operations, such as managed intensive grazing, can help enrich rangelands and keep the ecosystems in a natural balance. Preservation happens on two levels: large landscapes are preserved for their historical and aesthetic values, and the integrity of the land as healthy grass-land is preserved heading fires, weeds, subdivisions, disrupted views, and loss of wildlife habitat.

Education Reform
The Grass-fed party is excited about spreading the grass-fed revolution all over America! We want to introduce people to grass-fed meat as a healthy alternative to feedlot meat. We want to show the world that there is a better way to raise livestock, one that is in tune with the earth, our rural economies and our health! We will promote the integration of more sustainable ranching techniques, such as managed intensive grazing, into the curriculum of more university and state extension programs.

Strengthening the Ranching Community
We believe the self-reliance of grass-fed production can help strengthen the rural economy by reducing both producer and consumer dependence on multi-national corporations. The entire community grows stronger when ranches can become more independently profitable, infusing the pride and confidence in ownership important to the vitality of a community. We believe that as grass-fed ranching proves to be both economically and environmentally sustainable, more people will feel confident to inherit or choose the ranching vocation.

Diplomacy
Grass-fed ranching is an old, treasured tradition that transcends borders and nationalities. It is the way our ancestors raised animals. Grass-fed ranchers are committed not only to quality meat but also sustainable methods that preserve the earth. This philosophy, were food is created in keeping with our traditions, brings people together regardless of their backgrounds. We hope that more grass-fed ranching in the U.S. will help restore the trust in our food relationships with other countries.

Art and Storytelling
We strongly support poets, painters, and other storytellers who reflect agrarian life, the history of the land, and the people who have dwelled on it. We believe that the work of art and the story are equally important places of preservation. A work of art is a place where histories can be understood, generations bridged, and where landscapes and ways of life can be preserved. We believe that supporting artists will help to prevent future destruction of actual landscapes and cultures.

Responsible Officials
The Grass-fed Party is committed to finding and supporting officials who care about the benefits grass-fed ranching and farming. While grass-fed ranching is a revival of old ways, many farmers and ranchers who are interested converting to grass-fed practices lack the support that is available to conventional farmers. Our hope is to elect officials who can offer farmers help and expertise when it comes to grass-fed practices, whether it is senators or local agricultural corporative extensions.

National Security
Feedlots pose a threat to national security because they make our food supply vulnerable to terrorist attack. The US military found hundreds of pages of information detailing agricultural targets in the US that were left by Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. Densely packed feedlots pose a soft target where it is easy to compromise the American food supply, and permanently damage our important agricultural sector.

Empowering people
We believe that all people can take part in creating grass-fed change by making consumer choices that support independent grass-fed producers, participating in organizing efforts, calling on law makers to curb the monopolization of the beef industry, and supporting legislation that would make it more economically feasible for next generation ranchers and farmers to inherit their family land and continue to use it for agricultural purposes. More cooperative efforts can be made between environmentalists and ranchers by considering the value of grass-fed ranching as it supports both land preservation and economic stability.

Visit grassfedparty.com to join the movement and maybe win one of the promotions. Please think about feedlot cows before you discard this message and if that doesn’t bother you think about your own health when eating feedlot meat. You are what they eat so that makes us mostly corn and lots of things too gross to mention.

Thank you very much for considering this movement. Grass fed is the healthiest for animals and people.

Canned Tomatoes May Affect Hormone Production

I've never felt comfortable in the kitchen because cooking is not my thing at all. But when I hear tips about foods my ears perk up because real food is my thing.

Anyway, if you must use tomatoes that are not fresh do not use the canned ones, find the ones in glass jars. Why?

"Tomato products are acidic and the can liners have toxic chemicals that have been shown to leach into the products, and may affect hormone production," said Dr. Heidi Dulay,Ed.D. M.S. N.C. - Adjunct Professor, Holistic Studies, JFKU, Pleasant Hill, CA. Teaching two Master's Degree Level courses:
1. Comparative dietary approaches
2. Practicum in Holistic Health: Tibetan Qigong
3. Cooking up new product ideas for health nuts that save time and energy and provides everyday health to anyone who wants it.

A substance used to line food cans, bisphenol A, is classed as an endocrine disruptor, a compound that can act like a hormone when it enters the human body.

Scientists have found that exposure to such chemicals can contribute to prostate cancer, cystic ovaries, breast cancer, and endometriosis.

Excellent tip from an ER I participant:
"If you don't like canning...buy boxes of organic tomatoes and run them through your food processor and throw them in a quart sized Ziploc bag and freeze flat and then stack in your freezer for the winter."

"If you are like me and getting more and more plastic phobic, you can freeze them in mason jars making sure to leave 3/4" empty so it can expand as it freezes. The jars cost some money but can be used year after year after year. Plus they are really easy to pick up at [Thrift stores] or from other people who used to can."

This tomato tip came from Dr. Heidi during the ER I fat burning program. Thank you Dr. Heidi for letting me share more tips. The program is much more than "weight loss" - we are learning about real food, cool!!!

Himalayan Crystal Salt The Purest Salt On Earth

Have you ever thought much about salt except to not eat too much of it? About a year ago I switched to sea salt because it offers more health benefits than plain table salt. Last month I learned about Himalayan salt. It has over 80 minerals so it's like taking a mineral supplement. How cool is that?

Unrefined salt is living salt. Table salt is actually 97.5% sodium chloride and 2.5% chemicals such as moisture absorbents, and iodine. Dried at over 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit, the excessive heat alters the natural chemical structure of the salt.

Himalayan is by far the best salt to use. If you have high blood pressure don't be afraid to add Himalayan salt to your diet. This is a different food than refined table salt.

Yes it will cost more than table salt. I think of it as taking a mineral supplement without anything synthetic.

You can do a quick search for Himalayan Pink Salt at Mountain Rose Herbs site here. You might find it at your local natural food co-op store.

More about Himalayan salt:
Himalayan Pink - gourmet salt is pure, hand-mined salt found naturally deep inside the pristine Himalayan Mountains. The high mineral Himalayan salt crystals range in color from sheer white to varying shades of pink to deep reds which indicates a beneficial amount of 84 trace elements & iron. The clean crystals are Gourmet Food Grade and the highest quality Himalayan salt available.

This 250 million year old, Jurassic era sea salt is known for its healing properties and is used by health professionals, spas and individuals who are interested in utilizing natural products to heal the body and relax the mind. For centuries, Himalayan salt has been used as folk remedies for a variety of health issues. Stimulating circulation, lowering blood pressure and removing toxins such as heavy metals from the body are just a few of the many benefits of Himalayan Pink salt.

Himalayan salt has multiple other uses for your skin as well, which you can tap by integrating it with other natural approaches. It really has an amazing untapped potential that has not yet been recognized. More from Dr.Mercola

What Kind Of Health Nut Are You?

I'm happy to feature another guest post from Health Nut Wannabe. Today Sue shares her experience with shopping for real food and how this relates to her weight loss journey.

Thanks Sue for another well written and really helpful article.

"I want to eat right, but I don't always do it." Does that sound at all like you?

There are about a dozen books on my shelf that talk about the nutritional value of foods, and which ones are best and which ones to avoid. Some of them agree with each other, and a few don't. Some say eat when you are hungry and don't when you're not. Some say eat small meals on a regular basis to keep from getting hungry. Some say eat fat, some say remove the fat. Some allow brown rice, whole wheat bread and whole grain pasta, some say NO grains at all. I'm often confused about the specifics, but that's not the reason I haven't lost much weight when I try. Mostly I'm guilty of failing to plan ahead.

So I went shopping with a list. This time I decided to try some food choices that go against the usual lists consisting of rabbit fare, flavorless chicken, and fat free twigs. This time I'm eating whole foods with whole flavors and, guess what? FATS! But the healthy kinds. Fat BURNING fats! Yeah, they actually exist. Omegas and medium chains from coconut and flax, butter, cheese, and meat from happy cows, if I weren't so allergic I'd also eat eggs from happy chickens.

And I'm not starving and binging during the day (or at night when nobody's watching). So I guess you could say that I'm a weird, new kind of health nut, which is actually the OLD kind of health nut... enjoying the traditional foods that our farming forefathers ate... that dieticians tell us will kill us, even though those farmers actually had fewer slow-killing diseases (they probably just wore out from all that hard work ;-) .
I'm eating from a list of foods which are part of the Extreme Regime by Dr. Heidi. There's actually a new program starting in September, you can check it out here at Little Spa.

What kind of health nut are you? Wanna find out?
Here's a fun lil video clip from Whole Food Nation (turn off your mute button and enjoy :-) .

Should Fat People Just Vomit For Weight Loss?

So should fat people just vomit to lose weight? That's what Kim Klaver asked after one commenter made the suggestion on this blog post. It came about because in the ER Fat Burn program people are losing weight without exercising.

Appalled that ER Fat Burn does not mandate exercise to lose weight, she asks the participants: "if losing weight is your only goal, why not eat whatever you want and then just go to the bathroom and stick your fingers down your throat."

This commenter is not alone in insisting that overweight people must exercise to lose weight. If they don't exercise, that means they're lazy. And they might as well do what desperate people do...become bulimic.

Another commenter to the same post wrote:

"Some trainers and weight-loss experts automatically equate weight with laziness. There's a real Puritan streak making itself known here:

Fat= lazy = bad.
Exercise = penance = redemption."

Seems intuitive, doesn't it? Even the Surgeon General and the USDA insist on "physical activity" to overcome the nation's obesity and overweight.

But is that right? It was also "obvious" once upon a time that the earth was flat.

Rigorous research surveys of the effects of exercise on weight loss, show that

"it takes far too much activity to burn up enough calories for a significant weight loss." -Feinstein, Journal of Chronic Disease (in Taubes, 2007 p. 260).
And

"Recent reports from the USDA have advocated ever more physical activity for adults -- now up to ninety minutes a day of moderate-intensity exercise. They have done so precisely because the evidence in support of the [weight loss-exercise link] hypothesis is so unimpressive." -Taubes, 2007 p. 268.

One reason exercise doesn't work for weight loss: it works up an appetite. Are you one of those who after a good workout, stops at a Starbucks for that latte and sweet thing? I know I did.

Another reason: relatively few calories are burned up in exercise. Ever notice the tiny number of calories you burn after 30-40 minutes on the treadmill?

A scientist at the University of Michigan calculated that a 250-lb man would "have to climb 20 flights of stairs to rid himself of the energy contained in one slice of bread!" (Taubes, 2007, p 260)

What if exercise is not critical for weight loss? It may be good for circulation, energy, and general well being, but may be of limited value for weight loss.

What then?

One answer: Change what we eat and what we don't eat. That's the basis of the ER Fat Burn program. It teaches participants how to forage for real fat burning foods that match their body type and health conditions. So far, so good. See here and here.

Bottom line: test in your own body and see what works for you.

Oats For Varicose Veins And Much More...

I'm happy to share a guest post from Health Nut Wannabe, Sue. Sue did her homework on Oats and found some really healthful info - so here it is, thumbs up for Health Nut Wannabe.

I think it's a safe bet that when you think about herbal medicine, you don't immediately think about oatmeal, right? But the humble oat, (Avena sativa), disguised as a boring breakfast food, is actually a powerful medicinal plant which has been used throughout history in many parts of the world including the Mediterranean, China, and more recently, North America.

Ever since people gave up their nomadic ways and became agrarian (staying in one place, growing and harvesting), they have cultivated grain to produce food. But oats were also used by traditional healers for chronic illness to restore strength and vigor. Additionally, the fabulous fiber found in the bran helps soothe and motivate the colon to do its thing, and it also removes bad cholesterol (remember "Lousy" LDL) from the body which helps prevent heart disease.

The grass from the oat plant is also beneficial, similar to wheat and barley grass. It is full of minerals, a whole bunch of them, which help the body build and repair bone, hair, teeth, nails, and other structural tissue. One way to use the grass is dried (straw) and made into a strong tea. Hmmm, oatstraw tea... might take some getting used to...

So what are some of the other traditional uses for oats besides mush? According to this article from Tree of Light's Master Herbalist, Steven Horne AHG, and Paula Perretty, oats are great for some of our everyday lifestyle issues:
~stress - acts as a nerve tonic
~emotions - a mild anti-depressant and sedative
~hemorrhoids and varicose veins - a blood tonic to aid circulation
~aphrodisiac - increases energy, libido, sensitivity to touch

As far as easy health foods, it can't get much easier than making a steamy bowl of oatmeal. If you can boil water and then stir something around for a few minutes, you can do it. The only catch is, it has to be whole, slow-cooking oats - rolled or steal-cut - not the quick or instant kind which are overprocessed and much higher in blood-glucose raising carbs. Add a blob of organic butter or virgin coconut oil for a tummy-filling meal. Of course, if you are on a fat-burning cycle you will have to skip the oats for now, but go ahead and eat the butter!

Health Nut Wannabe is having fun searching for easy ways to eat right without needing a degree in gourmet cooking.

She Was Afraid To Sign Up For The ER Weight Loss Program

Today I'm happy to feature Wanda as she shares what she thought about weight loss and her take on the ER I program. Thank you Wanda and Kim for sharing with us.

"Now is the end of the 5th week of ER I, I’ve lost 11 lbs, 3 inches from my waist and 1+ ½ dress size.
Wanda.

Hello Dr Heidi,
I went shopping the other day for an outfit for a wedding, I was ecstatic when I can actually wear my normal size and went down a size in pants. I was so happy I wanted to scream from the dressing room.

You know what … the challenges have been forgotten and I don’t miss the white rice like I thought I would."

Here's the rest of Wanda's email that came two days ago. Right after the end of ER I (5 week fat burning program that started in July - over the phone.)

"I was very reluctant to sign up with ER...

"I’ve been carrying around these 15-20 lbs for the past 15 years or so...
I believe the ideal weight for my height is somewhere between 110-115 lbs.... I’m older now (not that much older), and I don’t expect to weigh the same as 30+ years ago. I wanted to get to my ideal weight.

"Here’s a list of things I was afraid of:

1) not having my normal menus
2) being restricted to how much to eat
3) having to count calories
4) having to cook a different meal for my family
5) having to buy frozen boxed meals (YUCK)
6) having to weigh my food in proportions
7) having to exercise like a mad woman

"ER showed me how to make changes to what I was eating and what not to eat. Though I have to say, the changes are totally opposite from what I’ve been doing all my life. Maybe that was the reason why I couldn’t get rid of the extra pounds. To eat more fat and no white rice, oh no! Isn’t some sort of protein, carb and veggies a normal diet?

"What … I have to do what? Me make kefir? What is kefir? Well, good thing I didn’t have to do that and there is an alternative to kefir, cuz I still can’t quite figure out what kefir is.

"What … I can have duck and I can have that too? Really? You mean I don’t have to eat things I don’t like and eat the things I do like but in a different way? Hooray!

"Finding all the recommended meats is an ongoing thing. I did buy almost all the core food, i.e.: Pops, Big B, coconut oil, cod liver oil, etc.

"I struggled at the beginning of the program. I was feeling so sick for about a week or so. With the help of the ER team, we were able to figure out what it was or it might even be coffee withdrawal. With the support and encouragement, I didn’t quit.

"Now is the end of the 5th week, I’ve lost 11 lbs, 3 inches from my waist and
1+ ½ dress size. I went shopping the other day for an outfit for a wedding, I was ecstatic when I can actually wear my normal size and went down a size in pants. I was so happy I wanted to scream from the dressing room. You know what … the challenges have been forgotten and I don’t miss the white rice like I thought I would.

"What keeps me going with this crazy weird program…my husband. Don’t tell him I told you this, but in 1985 he stopped drinking alcoholic drinks. He’s been dry for 23+ years without a relapse. One of their quotes in AA is “One Day At A Time”. If he can, I know I can.

"Even if I didn’t lose the amount of weight I’ve lost, I would do this program just to learn from the elite of the elites in food management. I already signed up for the next one.

"Life is precious and I will do whatever it takes to be healthy for my family and keep them healthy for me. Things are replaceable, we’re not.

"Thank you!
Wanda

"P.S. I did metabolic boosters, shake mixes, meal bars, teas, etc. I rather eat real food, personally."

Thank you Wanda for sharing your thoughts and end results. We are cheering for you and I feel the next ER program will help you even more now that you know what to expect.

Diet Shakes and Pills Not Enough For Weight Loss

This post is line with my 5 weeks weight loss ER program with real food and Dr. Heidi. Kim and Dr. Heidi have 5 strategies for weight loss.

If you're trying to lose weight and get your health back, pills and shakes are not enough.

How else can we explain why most Americans are so overweight? Including many folks selling health and weight loss supplements.

Pills and shakes have a place. Just not first place.

According to nutrition professor Dr. Heidi Dulay, to lose the weight and get your health back, there are five ordered strategies. From the most natural to the least:

1st. Optimize your daily food plan. Ask: what am I eating and how can I make it better? Get as close as possible to a real food plan (not calorie counting, starving, industrial food or rabbit food).

2nd. Amp up your food plan where necessary. Add super foods e.g. green powders, cod liver and coconut oil, herbs, Pops, etc.

3rd. If symptoms persist after a month of doing 1 and 2 above, or if your doctor prescribes it, add nutraceuticals e.g. isolated Vitamin C, Vitamin D, calcium, CoQ10, L-glutamine, etc.

4th. If symptoms still persist, add pharmaceuticals your doctor recommends. Many do this strategy together with nutraceuticals.

5th. Last resort: surgery. E.g., stomach stapling (Bariatric surgery), etc.
If you had to choose between #5 and #1, would you consider an optimal ER daily food plan first? For four weeks? And THEN decide re #5?

How To Read Labels On Meat

Did you know that approximately 70 percent of all antibiotics and related drugs produced in the United States are given to livestock and poultry? These drugs are used for nontherapeutic purposes such as accelerating growth and preventing the diseases caused by overcrowded and unsanitary conditions on "factory farms." Unfortunately, this practice results in antibiotic-resistant bacteria that can cause difficult-to-treat diseases in humans.

You can help stop this problem by making smart meat purchases. Meat from animals raised without antibiotics is available but shoppers need to look carefully at product labels. There are a number of labels meant to appeal to discriminating consumers, but they do not all mean the same thing or carry the same weight. Here's what you need to know the next time you see the following labels at the supermarket.

Certified Organic: Meat that bears this label is raised without the use of antibiotics or related drugs and meets other rigorous standards set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). When organically raised animals become sick, they are treated with antibiotics but do not receive the organic label. A third party certifies these standards.

No Antibiotics Added/Raised Without Antibiotics: This label indicates that the animals have not been fed antibiotics at any point in their lives. Meat from sick animals treated with antibiotics cannot be sold under this label claim. Although the USDA approved the use of this claim, compliance is not certified by a third party.

Natural/All-Natural: The USDA defines a "natural" meat product as one that "contain[s] no artificial ingredient or added color and is only minimally processed." Meat labeled "natural" may or may not have been treated with antibiotics.

Free-Range/Free-Roaming: These labels have been approved by the USDA for poultry that have been allowed access to the outdoors (though they may never actually go outdoors) but the claim implies nothing about the antibiotic use practices of the producer.

In addition, nonprofit organizations such as the American Humane Association, the Animal Welfare Institute, and the Food Alliance offer certifications for meat producers who adhere to a specific set of standards and administer antibiotics for therapeutic uses only. You may also want to investigate whether there are organizations in your area (including state agencies) that inspect local farms and offer their own certifications. Ideally, shop at local farmers' markets whenever possible and ask the farmers how their meat is raised. Supporting farmers who don't give antibiotics to their animals helps make the meat production system more sustainable.

My 5 Week Weight Control With Dr. Heidi And Real Food

The last 5 weeks I've been part of Dr. Heidi's Extreme Regime program because I'm very interested in food and health. I know there is a direct link with what we eat, our health and weight. Also, I'm losing the baby fat after 10 years, not much to lose but enough to make me feel and look better. I'm not bloated now, yeah...

At a glance here are a few food tips I took away from the ER weight control program. No diet foods, no boxed frozen foods to buy, no fake foods, simple real food. Also no calorie counting, no starving or hunger, not cooking different meals for the ER program and my family (we all eat the same food), no strict diet plan or eating things I hate. Lastly no exercise required (of course I exercise for health - but not for the first phase of fat burning).
Catch about extreme regime weight loss program.

My core ingredients for success; Dr. Heidi Dulay, eat enough food (it's not how much we eat, but what we eat), animal protein, cheese (raw), Pops, Big B, Cod Liver Oil, Coconut Oil and water. ER weight loss - what it isn't.

◙ Real food:
It tastes good. I've found a way to teach my 10-year-old son about the health benefits of real food. Some of the real food wasn't easy to find but worth it when I did. With the attitude that I wanted real food I did find it and wondered why I never knew about these sources before. Buying meat from farmers is cheaper than the stores, at least for me. Especially since I found a farmer close to me.

◙ Oils are healthy and burn fat:
Coconut oil is the best fat burner. I use the organic virgin coconut oil for my body toddy and many other foods, while I use the expelled for cooking (no taste).
Butter is healthy and I even made my own from organic non-homogenized whole cream.

Cod liver oil is a great source of vitamin A – D and E and Omega-3 fatty acids, including DHA, EPA, and ALA. I use Carlson Norwegian lemon flavor Cod Liver Oil and it tastes good. I could never handle the fish flavor, yuck, but the lemon goes down great.
Olive oil is not a good choice for cooking because it breaks down with heat. Coconut oil is best for eating and cooking. More here Eat fat to lose weight.

◙ Protein is good for fat burning:
Protein and fat is key to weight loss but not just any protein. Grass fed beef, pastured (happy) chickens, pastured eggs from happy chickens and wild caught fish are excellent protein sources. There are many more but these happen to be the ones I'm eating.

Kefir, raw from a farmer or make your own from kefir grains and raw- good quality milk. I didn't do the kefir so I use Caprotein, a goat milk protein and InulinFos, a prebiotic.

Pastured eggs are so superior to even cage free eggs. The yolks are orange next to the yellow yolk of an egg from a grain fed chicken. Pastured eggs have natural omega 3 and a good source of Vitamin D. Don't cook the nutrients out. Video here about ER eggs.

Raw cheese, butter and cream are great protein – fat sources. Pasteurized dairy does not offer weight loss benefits. I love raw cheddar from cows and goats.

**I didn't find these real foods right away. Dr. Heidi gave us sources where she buys the fat burning foods and many alternatives to use while seeking the "real deal."

Carbs, sugar and processed foods are evil for weight loss.
To lose weight lose the carbs and sugar. Nothing white like rice, pasta and sugar. I didn't stop all carbs, I still have veggies with my pastured chicken or beef.
We (ER group) are having our personal experience with a real food, low carb, fat+protein regime. Where quality is more important than quantity. And awareness more important than discipline. In the end, we trust our own body and trust the results of our little ER group who have no reason to pretend, no axe to grind and no position to uphold. We're just doing it...
Ok that's it for now. The focus of the ER program is to eat real food, not gourmet food just real food, forget the media based reports about real food being bad. Small sample of real food for the ER program, grass-fed meats, pastured chickens and their eggs, raw cheese, real oils like coconut oil, butter and ghee (clarified butter). Lot's of choices and I don't have to eat things I don't like.

What Makes Your Cereal Go Snap - Crackle - Pop?

Snap, crackle, pop! Does your cereal talk to you? Rice Krispies -- the breakfast that talks to you -- has been around for nearly 80 years, but scientists have only recently figured out why it makes that noise.

Food scientist Ted Labuza, says there are a few reasons.

"Rice Krispies has sugar in it. It's the sugar that causes it to interact in the different way with the starch, and that makes a big difference," Labuza, who is professor of Food Science and Engineering at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, tells DBIS. In fact, sugar is the second ingredient in the Krispies. It's much lower on the list in other cereals.

Another reason? Rice Krispies are cooked at such a high temperature, the sugar forms crystals that behave almost like glass. If you crush them, they'll break into pieces.

During the cooking process, each piece of rice expands, and tiny air-filled caves form inside. The Krispies' bubbles are about 20-times bigger than those in puffed rice cereal.

Here's what really happens inside: The Krispie absorbs the milk and the air-filled caves become filled with liquid. Air is then pushed around until the walls shatter and make a noise. And that's what you hear!

Labuza says the Krispies probably make different sounds because of the different sizes of the air pockets. They stop making noise after they pick up all the milk they can handle. He says this is the only food that acts this way -- with the exception of Pop Rocks candy. Source ScienceDaily

Eat Fat To Get Skinny - Our Results Prove It!

Have you ever tried a lowfat diet and felt like you were starving to death? Fat actually sends a signal to your brain to tell you when to stop eating. So, if you don't get enough fat in a meal, you will never feel completely satisfied and will usually end up overeating.

Another problem with lowfat diets is that lowfat means high-carb. And high-carb eventually leads to low blood sugar. When your blood sugar drops, your body goes into a storage mode and your metabolism slows down. Also, when you eat high-carb foods you trigger the release of insulin, which tells your body to store fat.

People on lowfat diets typically avoid protein foods from animal sources because they contain saturated fats. This is not a very wise choice for most people because the only complete source of protein found in nature comes from animals.

Our media-induced fear of fat in this country has created a market for over 15,000 reduced-fat products! These products completely fail to live up to their claims, not to mention that they don't even taste good. Have you ever had a fat-free product that tasted better than the original? The fact is that when they remove the fat, they have to put something back in, and that "something" is usually more sugar, sodium, artificial flavorings, binding agents and other chemicals.

Don't be afraid to eat real food. The closer to nature, the better it is for you. Choose foods in their whole state. Do your best to avoid processed, prepackaged foods, especially those that are reduced-fat products.

The best fats for us to eat are those that generations thrived on before Quaker and Nabisco became household names. These traditional fats include butter, lard, tallow, olive oil, coconut and palm oils—fats that you don't hear about too often on TV!

"Unfortunately we will still read more from media-induced fat fears like this current Mayo Clinic report about coconut oil."

Not only will you lose weight and inches with real food and the good oils your health will improve. Taking the fear out of eating fats

OK here are some results from Dr. Heidi's ER weight control program - based on real food with "good fats":
Carol lost 14 lbs in her first 14 days on ER Fat Burn, is now up to 19 lbs,
Vanessa, an auditor, lost 10 lbs
Mary, an auditor, lost 11 lbs.
Wanda, an Active, lost 9 lbs
And, one gal lost 0. She came to ER with a dead metabolism, looking for way to revive it so she could start losing. After 4 weeks in ER, she got rid of her gas and bloating, and her the joint pain disappeared. She too, is a happy camper.

Food for thought about fats and health; Alaskan Eskimos consume as much as 70% of their calories from fat (whale blubber and fish) and they have one of the lowest rates of heart disease in the world – until they come to the US and eat like us!

From Dr. Heidi Dulay; "There is a whole body of fascinating research supporting real foods versus fake foods. And meticulous analysis of the data from large "clinical trials" and diet programs run by physicians showing that saturated fats are NOT a cause of heart disease or obesity, but rather are beneficial for health and weight loss."

Kim has given us glimpses of these in her posts on Inside Whole Food Nation. See here, Mr. Banting lost 50 lbs on low-carb food.

Bottom line: We (ER group) are having our personal experience with a real food, low carb, fat+protein regime. Where quality is more important than quantity. And awareness more important than discipline. In the end, we trust our own body and trust the results of our little ER group who have no reason to pretend, no axe to grind and no position to uphold. The Catch About Extreme Regime Weight Loss Program

Of course you knew there was a catch, right? I've had many questions from readers here who have heard about Dr. Heidi's ER Fat Burn program. It is a lifestyle change because it's based on eating real food. But how do you know that it's not just people taking your money and, at the end of the program, you're still overweight and miserable?

You're right to wonder about the catch. Especially if your dieting experiences have been like that of these women...

"20,000 women lost 2 lbs after 8 years of dieting"

All the women reduced their daily calories by an average of 360 calories per day. They weighed only 2 lbs less after 8 years of dieting!
– National Institutes of Health, 1991. Women’s Health Initiative, a $700 million study.

These gals thought that if they restricted their calories, they'd lose weight.

That belief is the catch in the ER Fat Burn program.

ER asks that you suspend your belief in the direct calorie-weight loss relationship - because it might be wrong. 50 years of clinical research shows that:

Calorie counting has turned out to be useless, and may even be dangerous.

ER asks you try a new belief - that it's what you eat, not how much you eat, that determines what you weigh and how you feel. **Read Sandi's story here about what happened when her belief changed.

Dr. Heidi is wrapping up the July 4-week ER Fat Burn program. Here's the story:

10 folks came to lose weight. After 4 weeks:
Average weight loss: 7 lbs.
High: 19 lbs; Low 3 lbs.
No one was (or is) hungry. No one is cranky.

So that's the catch. Can you suspend an old belief and test a new one?

It's not how much we eat, it's WHAT we eat.
Next ER Fat Burn starts September 6.
If you've been calorie counting without success, want to test a new belief?
** Maximum 15 participants.

They all believed the earth was flat once too, didn't they?

Register/info forDr. Heidi's ER Fat Burn program.

Thank you Kim - Inside Whole Food Nation for showing us the true catch to the ER Fat Burning Program. I am an auditor in the current program and I will say it was about "forgetting" what I've always believed about weight loss.

Accepting Food: Personal Journey With Weight Loss And Food

I'm very happy to publish a very personal journal from "Sandi" a lady that is involved with Dr. Heidi Dulay's ER fat burning program. This is Sandi's letter to all the participants in the August program, it really touched my heart. I know there are many people that feel the same way Sandi does (did) about food and weight so this is for all of you. Thank you Sandi for allowing me to share your story.

From Sandi in her exact words:

Hi all,

I thought I would write a note about what Dr. Heidi and I discussed briefly on Saturday on the call about my body not accepting fats and oils. I'm writing to everyone because someone else might be dealing with the same issues I am, so maybe it'll be helpful to you.

I spent my youth and into my early twenties with an eating disorder. I would binge for a day or two and then stop eating for days at a time. It's a combination of bulimia and anorexia, but I didn't throw up, I just stopped eating. Anyway, I completely messed up my body chemistry with that form of torture. I've had very serious candida yeast overgrowths and many food allergies and sensitivities that I'm pretty sure were brought on by messing with my body's chemistry for so long.

When Dr. Heidi said the other day that I wasn't accepting food into my body (I'm paraphrasing--sorry Dr. Heidi, if I've gotten your words wrong) and I needed to work on that, it was at first hard to hear because I've spent so many years trying to reconnect with my body and change what I've done to it. But, I was standing at my kitchen window this afternoon, eating some bologna (yes, there really is GOOD, organic, no-crap bologna!), and I realized Dr. Heidi was absolutely right. I was standing, not sitting. I was gulping my food down, so I could get back to my computer and the work I was doing. I wasn't thinking about the food going into my body. I was thinking about what I had been writing a few minutes before. I was thinking about what I needed to do next. I had no concept that I was actually eating at all.

I've been afraid for many years of fats, even though I've now known for at least ten years how good they are for me, and I've eaten them despite my fears. I don't eat enough fat because my body doesn't like it. Or, so I've been saying. No, it's not my BODY that doesn't like it...it's my HEAD. It's what I'm telling myself. I've still got that niggling voice saying, "You'll get fat. You know you will. What if they're all wrong and you gain even MORE weight?" You all know that voice, I'm sure.

So, I decided to have an attitude of gratitude, instead. I started thanking my body for accepting all the good foods and for allowing me to digest better. I did what Dr. Heidi suggested: I relaxed my shoulders and my eyes. I felt the food going down. I thought hard about how good it was for me and how I had chosen such amazingly good foods to put into my body. And you know what? It worked!

I was able to get the cod liver oil down in my kefir without a sour stomach. I was able to eat everything today without consequence. I will keep doing it and hope that soon my body will start burning the reserves because it will understand that the decades of starvation it had to endure are now GONE, forever. I'll never starve my body again. I'll never deny it all the good things I've learned in the past few weeks from Dr. Heidi.

My attitude of gratitude extends heartily to Kim and Vicki and Dr. Heidi. THANK YOU for this wonderful program. THANK YOU for the naked auditor spot, without which I could not have participated, since I've been too sick to work much for nearly two years.

Thank you a million times over. I'm ever so grateful. And thank you to all the wonderful folks on here. We're all energetically connected--everyone on the planet. I can especially feel it with all of us on this forum. We all care about one another, even though we'll probably never meet.

Thank you for caring. You're all splendid folks, and I'm thoroughly enjoying your thoughts and comments.

Love,

Sandi (Colorado)

Thank you Sandi for sharing your journey with us, as painful as it must have been. Even after the August ER program is over we will stay in touch and cheer you on.

Dr. Heidi's ER "healthy" weight loss program next session starts Sept 6. Sandi did the Auditor ER program, like I did. As she wrote she didn't have a lot of extra funds so the Auditor program worked very well for her and she gained so much from it.

Update from Dr. Heidi in response to Alicia's comment:
"I am interested to learn more about the ER program, but because it is an expense, is there more you can tell us about it? Without revealing the specific plan, what are the phases like? I see that some include fats, some include fruits, etc. What should a person expect as far as a grocery budget while on the ER?

Dr. Heidi explains:

"The ER program that starts Sep 6 is the Fat Burning Cycle. It focuses on real foods that provide good proteins and fats. A person can spend as little or as much as they want because there is a range of foods people can select from depending on their taste preferences, their budget and the availability of the foods.

I work with full participants one-on-one to help them customize their plan from the food list I provide. While auditors don't get the one-on-one help, they can join the private ER Google Group to ask questions and discuss issues with members of the group, including me. Let me know if there's anything else I can clarify. " Dr. Heidi

About your sugar question:
Probiotics can help. Provides some damage control.

Low Vitamin D Shown to Raise Death Risk - Report. *Surprise Source Of Vitamin D

People with the lowest levels of the so-called sunshine vitamin had a 26 percent increased risk of death over eight years compared to those with the highest levels, the researchers reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

The report follows several recent studies that have shown vitamin D may protect against a host of ailments, including heart disease, cancers of the colon and breast, diabetes and tuberculosis.

Dr. Michal Melamed of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and colleagues studied 13,331 adults for an average of 8.7 years.

Of the 1,806 people who died, 777 died of heart disease, though there were too few to conclude a vitamin deficiency caused fatal heart problems. Vitamin D deficiency was also linked to a higher risk of death from cancer, diabetes and other diseases.

"The fact that all the deaths went up, but we could not find the specific cause, may be because vitamin D plays a role in both cancer and heart disease and potentially other things" like diabetes, Melamed said in a telephone interview.

Scientists have evidence that the vitamin helps lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation and boost the immune system.

Vitamin D deficiency is common: about one-quarter of American adults have less than the 18 nanograms per milliliter of blood that Melamed recommended as minimal. About two in five American men and half of women have less than the 28 nanograms per milliliter considered healthy.

The body makes vitamin D when the skin is exposed to sunlight, and it is also found in fatty fish like salmon. But many people do not get enough of it, especially in winter in higher latitudes when the sun's rays are less direct and people are inside or covered up.

The research team noted that heart problems are more likely to arise in winter when vitamin D levels tend to be lower. And cancer survival rates are higher when the disease is diagnosed in summer when vitamin D levels are higher.

But too-high levels of the vitamin were also found to be harmful, researchers said, though not as harmful as a deficiency.

Vitamin D is like everything else in the body: there has to be a ideal level. But what is the ideal level? Source: ReutersHealth.com

We know too much sun exposure is not healthy and I will not use supplements because the ingredients could be synthetic. I don't drink enough milk so where can I get Vitamin D? Surprise Source of Vitamin D

Does Sugar Really Make Kids Hyper?

I grew up hearing my mom say we couldn't eat candy because it would make us hyper. I always believed this and have told my 10-year-old son the same thing. Now I know the truth, it's a myth.

I know many of you are thinking I'm totally wrong. Maybe you have seen your own kids turn hyper after eating sugar laden candy, cereal or drinking sodas. I know how you feel because I thought the reports were so wrong. Read more before you think I've lost it for sure on this one.

What you've heard: "Sugar makes kids hyper."

The truth:
More than 20 studies show that sugar has no effect on behavior, says Mark Wolraich, M.D., a chief of pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City.

Rather, it's guilt by association:
Kids tend to eat gobs of sugar at parties, where they'd go wild anyway. It may also be a matter of perception. In one study, moms who were told their children had eaten sugar rated them as very hyper compared to kids who ate an artificial sweetener, even though they actually all ate the sweetener.

Research shows carbohydrates, including sugar, are more apt to calm than arouse the brain, and ironically tend to reduce the hyperactivity.

Bottom line: While limiting sugar's a great idea for your child's health, you'll have to find another way to keep her from bouncing off the walls.

Whole Foods Recalls Beef

Seven people in Massachusetts have fallen ill, most likely after eating beef sold at Whole Foods Market, leading the grocery chain yesterday to recall all ground beef sold between June 2 and Aug. 6.

This is the third time this summer that consumers have had to worry about what's in their refrigerators. First, it was fear of tomatoes tainted with salmonella - though the culprits turned out be jalapeño peppers. Then, worries about contaminated ground beef at the Kroger grocery chain.

This time, the source of the dangerous meat was probably a Whole Foods supplier, Coleman Natural Beef, whose meat is processed by Nebraska Beef Ltd., which was also involved in the Kroger contamination. Straight to the source, Whole Foods Recalls Beef.

Nebraska Beef, Ltd., an Omaha, Neb., establishment is recalling approximately 1.2 million pounds of primal cuts, subprimal cuts and boxed beef that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

These beef products were produced on June 17, June 24 and July 8, 2008. The shipping containers and product labels bear the establishment number “EST. 19336” inside the USDA mark of inspection as well as the brand “Coleman Natural.” However, these products were sent to establishments and retail stores nationwide for further processing and will likely not bear the establishment number “EST. 19336” on products available for direct consumer purchase.

Consumers with questions about the recall should contact company Vice President of Administration James Timmerman at 402-733-0456. Media with questions about the recall should contact company representative William Lamson at (402) 397-7300.

The problem was discovered through a joint investigation with state departments of health and agriculture, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and FSIS. To date, 31 cases in 12 states and Canada have been identified in the investigation.

FSIS is continuing its investigation into any products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 or that are associated with illnesses and will take appropriate action when necessary.

E. coli O157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney failure. The very young, seniors and persons with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness. Anyone with signs or symptoms of foodborne illness should consult a medical professional. 5 Weight Loss Surprises - New Research

Most everyone I know is on a diet of some kind most of the time. Everyone is trying.

But most folks are frustrated with their meager results. One recent study predicts that everyone will be overweight in 40 years, despite all the dieting and suffering.

What are we doing wrong?

Here are five stunners from recent reviews of the weight research literature. Including reanalysis of existing government studies:

Calorie restriction doesn't work. Unless you're happy with losing 5 pounds after six months of semi-starvation. In a $700 million gov't study, 20,000 women lost only 2 pounds after 8 years of reducing their daily calories by 360 each day. Two pounds after 8 years (!!) See Report.

Artificial sweeteners actually make you fatter. Any diet foods, shakes, bars, low-carb this 'n that, which are filled with artificial sweeteners or artificial fats, flavors or colorings, make you blimp out. See why here.

Even nutritious carbs like whole grains, legumes, fruit and veggies - may interfere with your weight loss.

Certain fats can be a major part of your weight loss food plan. These special fats rev up your metabolism.

Rabbit food is NOT required to lose weight.

Exercise is NOT required to lose weight. One of the gals in Dr. Heidi's July Extreme Regime ER-I fat burning program lost 14 pounds in 14 days and didn't exercise anymore than normal. Which is almost never.

These five findings are among the principles guiding the success of Dr. Heidi's ER-I program. Everyone has lost weight and no one is ever hungry. What more can one ask?

Dr. Heidi's next ER-I program starts September 6. Info here.

How Supersized Food and Drinks Were Born...

Do you know how supersized foods and drinks came about? Think it was McDonald's? You're not too far off but no it wasn't McDonald's or 7-11 with the Big Gulp.

The history of Supersizing:
In the 1960's a man named David Wallerstein worked for a chain of movie theaters, where he struggled to expand sales of soda and popcorn, the high-markup items that theaters depend on to make profits.

Wallerstein tried everything he could think of to boost sales, two-for-one deals, matinee specials, but found he couldn't get customers to buy more than one soda and one bag of popcorn. Why? Because going for seconds makes people feel like pigs.

Wallerstein discovered that people would spring for more popcorn and soda, a lot more, as long as it came in a single gigantic serving. This is how the Big Gulp and, in time, the Big Mac and jumbo fries came along.

Until his death in 1993, Wallerstein served on the board of directors at McDonald's. Though Ray Kroc himself took some convincing about supersizing: the McDonald's founder had naively assumed that if people wanted more fries they'd buy another bag. He didn't appreciate how social taboos against gluttony (one of the seven deadly sins, after all) were holding us back.

Wallerstein went looking for proof. He would stake out at McDonald's in and around Chicago watching how people ate. He saw customers noisily draining their soda and digging tiny bits of salt and burnt fries out of their little bags of French Fries. Again, Wallersetin presented his findings and Kroc relented and approved supersized portions. McDonald's sales soared and history of supersize was set.

Wallerstein's dubious achievement was to devise the dietary equivalent of a papal dispensation: Supersize it! He had discovered the secret to expanding the (supposedly) fixed human stomach.

Here we are in 2008 with Americans battling weight related diseases and not being healthy. Yes we can blame part of it on Supersize of everything we eat or drink.
