Are You Getting Enough Fruits And Veggies To Prevent Cancer?

From the time we were toddlers we were told to eat our fruits and veggies. Over the years new research has shown eating more fresh whole food prevents anything from cancer to gum disease. But how many people are listening and getting these foods everyday?

Let's look at how foods can fight cancer. Cancer is a slow progression that starts with the "initiation" of a single cell by cancer-causing substances. Foods and food compounds can interfere with this cancer process at about ten stages of development, according to John D. Potter, M.D., of the University of Minnesota.

*Food compounds can prevent agents from being "activated." They can block the mutation of cell's DNA.
*They can stimulate enzymes in the body that flush cancer-causing chemicals out of the body.
*They can prevent cancer-causing oncogenes from being switched on.
*They can combat bacteria related to stomach cancer.
*They can even help prevent cancer cells from spreading.

Next post will show major foods with anticancer activity.

So how many fruits and veggies do you eat a day? I'll start, I have 3 fruits in my morning drink, and at least 5 veggies everyday. I have to get fruit from my drink or I won't eat them. I'm a veggie lover.

Your turn, use the comments to share how many fruits and veggies you get everyday and be honest.
