Study Shows Men More Likely Than Women To Eat Asparagus

My husband and I eat very different. He's the meat, bread, potatoes lover and washes it down with a diet soda. I'm the veggie, nuts, hot cereal and tea drinker.

Men and women really do have different food preferences according to research. The study shows what I've always known about the food my family likes and dislikes.

In general, men are more likely to report eating meat and poultry items and women are more likely to report eating fruits and vegetables. This was an extensive survey from May 2006 to April 2007.

What men are likely to eat:
Meat and poultry products especially duck, veal, and ham. They were also more likely to eat certain shellfish such as shrimp and oysters.

What women are likely to eat:
Vegetables, especially carrots and tomatoes. As for fruits, they were more likely to eat strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and apples. Women also preferred dry foods, such as almonds and walnuts, and were more likely to consume eggs and yogurt when compared with men.

There were some exceptions to the general trend. Men were significantly more likely to consume asparagus and brussels sprouts than women while women were more likely to consume fresh hamburgers (as opposed to frozen, which the men preferred). source

I didn't need research to tell me these things but now I know we are the average (American) family.

  1. This is interesting, and fairly accurate for my family. Although, my husband does a lot of veggies, and we both LOVE asparagus!
I also enjoyed the healing herbs post. I have a book by Dr. Andrew Weil called Eating Well for Optimum Health that has a similar healing foods list, as well as a list of certain foods to avoid if you suffer from particular ailments. I am insulin resistant, and taking cues from that book, eating well and exercising have kept me healthy enough that I don't have to take medication to control my blood sugar. My doctors are always astounded. Yay!
