Different Aid For Breast Cancer Home Self Checks

How Many Women Get Breast Cancer?
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, other than skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.

About 178,480 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2007. About 40,460 women will die from the disease this year. Right now there are about two and a half million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
The chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer some time during her life is about 1 in 8.

The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 35. Breast cancer death rates are going down. This is probably the result of finding the cancer earlier and improved treatment.

How Is Breast Cancer Found?
The term screening refers to tests and exams used to find a disease, such as cancer, in people who do not have any symptoms. The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chances that treatment will work. The goal is to find cancers before they start to cause symptoms.

The size of a breast cancer and how far it has spread are the most important factors in predicting the outlook for the patient. Most doctors feel that early detection tests for breast cancer save many thousands of lives each year.

Do you know any women who don't do breast cancer checks and know they should?
It's a fact that approximately 70% of breast cancers are self (or Spouse) discovered. Stage 1 is no more than 2 centimeters (cm) across and has not spread beyond the breast. Detection at stage 1 offers better than a 95% chance of full recovery.

I was introduced to a home breast check aid that I feel is important to share. It is easy to use at home and effective for finding abnormalities/lumps in stage 1 or even pre-stage 1.

The reusable Breast Chek Aid consists of a lubricant sealed between two layers of polyurethane. The bottom layer remains stable while the top layer of the aid slides freely over the breast tissue. The encased lubricant allows the fingertips to glide smoothly over the entire chest wall. Works like a magnifying glass for your fingertips. Users say their ability to find an irregularity is greatly improved. I watched the video online and they used grains of rice to demonstrate how the gel works in letting your fingertips feel the tiniest bump.

My friend Ed says he came across some other interesting info recently that women who work the night shift (it was mostly nurses in one study), had a higher incidence of breast cancer than those who strictly worked the day shift. The rate was almost as high as 60%. They believe that this was due to the suppression of the hormone melatonin, which is typically released at night when we are sleeping. When women with breast cancer got better quality sleep it was also found that melatonin slowed the growth of the breast cancer cells.

As a respiratory therapist Ed is hoping to work with one of his local cancer research physicians to screen women with breast cancer to ensure that they are getting good quality sleep, thus resulting in melatonin release, which will hopefully slow the progression of their disease.

Send this information to the women (and men) you love. View the video, product info and contact Ed today.
