Cancer and Diet - I didn't know there was a connection

My mom died 7 short months after being diagnosed with cancer. She had a positive attitude and really thought the chemo would put her in remission. She came to my wedding on October 11. 1997 and did OK but I could see how frail she was. She returned to Texas and finished her chemo. She told me they got all the cancer. I learned the truth that Christmas when I was in Texas for my Grandmother's funeral. Mom had been in the hospital for several days and was too sick to even attend her mother's funeral.

My sister called me on January 29, 1998 and said mom was really bad so I needed to get there ASAP if I wanted to see her one last time. She died on January 31, 1998, 12 days before her 68th birthday. The only happy thought I had for months was the fact that she knew I was having a baby. I had to take care of me and the baby. My son is 9-years-old now and I still miss my mom as much as I did 10 years ago.

I want to be here for a long time for my son. It took several years to realize how important nutrition is to protect against cancer. Now I wonder if my mom had better nutrition if her immunity could have been stronger and she might have lived long enough to at least see her grandson. Matthew, my son will never know his Grandmother but he knows how special she was. He knows the ways he is like her. I'm keeping her memory fresh and alive for me and my son. I'm keeping me alive for my son so hopefully he doesn't watch me die too soon like I watched my mom.

For the rest of my life I will make good nutrition my #1 goal, for me and my family.
